Obituary of Madhumita Chaudhuri

Madhumita (Sanyal) Chaudhuri, known to her friends and family as “Bubu”, passed away at her home in Braintree on Saturday morning, July 9, 2022.  The beloved wife of the late Subrata (Rajat) Chaudhuri, she was 64 years old.

Madhumita was born and raised in Calcutta India where she would meet her husband, Subrata. They married and moved to the United States in 1981. They lived in Connecticut for three years where their two children were born. They then moved to Burlington where they would raise their family.

Madhumita worked as a Dining Supervisor at Youville House in Lexington for over 15 years. Working in the food industry was the perfect job for Madhumita because she expressed her love for friends and family by always cooking for them.  She enjoyed tackling recipes from all different cultures; Indian, Chinese, Italian, American you name it she would try it!  She was an amazing mom to her children Sohini and Arnab.  Madhumita was nurturing, caring and always put the needs of her children ahead of her own.

Madhumita and her husband Subrata loved to travel and there weren’t many destinations both inside and outside the United States that they didn’t visit.  One of their most memorable trips was to Ireland to see their daughter Sohini marry her husband, David.

Madhumita and her husband Subrata were founding members of the Bengalees of New England (BNE), an association of people in Greater Boston who are interested in celebrating the cultural heritage of Bengal. Madhumita was a silent and tireless worker for BNE, always ready to help in all of the organization’s functions and activities.

Madhumita moved to Braintree this past year to be closer Sohini & Arnab and their families.  She was blessed to see the birth of her first grandchild Bodhi who gave her so much joy even through the most difficult times. Over the past few months, she was enjoying the company of her dad, Prodyot, who was visiting her from India.

Madhumita was the beloved wife of the late Subrata. She was the loving mother of Arnab Chaudhuri & his partner Jessica Shank of Quincy and Sohini & her husband David Ward of Dorchester.  Proud grandmother of Bodhi.  Loving daughter of Prodyot Sanyal and the late Gayatri Mujumdar. Madhumita is also survived by her sister-in-law Swati Bhattacherya and nephew Shayan Bhattcherya, and many other loving extended family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, July 15 from 11am -1pm.  Funeral Services will be private.
