Obituary of Demetra Paulos

PAULOS, Demetra (Vagenas) of Burlington, formerly of Milwaukee, WI, passed on Saturday afternoon, at the age of 88.  Demetra was the beloved wife of 51 years of the late Gus Paulos. She was the loving mother of Helen Splagounias and her husband Gregory and proud grandmother of their children Themis and Constantine of Burlington.

Demetra was born in Missolonghi, Greece, as one of 9 children born to Pandelis and Spiridoula Vagenas. Soon after arriving in the United States, Demetra met and married Gus. In her early years, Demetra managed a Greek bakery and later worked as a seamstress. She was an active parishioner at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee where she frequently put her baking skills to good use and was known best for her exceptional kourabiedes and baklava. Not long after retiring, Gus and Demetra moved from Milwaukee, WI to Burlington, MA to be closer to their daughter Helen and her family. Demetra cherished being a part of her grandsons’ daily lives and could not have been prouder of them. She loved children and never missed an opportunity to hold a baby or dote on her nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Church, 17 Meriam St., Lexington, MA 02420, on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, from 9:00am. to 10:30am., followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30am., followed by a Burial at Westlawn II Cemetery, 305 Boston Rd., Lowell, MA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Demetra’s name, may be sent to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, or the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
