Obituary of Harold Bergquist
Harold W. Bergquist, a retired Head Custodian for the Woburn School System, passed away at the Winchester Hospital on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The beloved husband of 66 years of Miriam (Gabrielson), he was 91 years old.
Harold was born in Braintree. He was raised and educated in Woburn. Harold was a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War serving his country in the United States Air Force. Harold was involved in the air campaigns over Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the Europe African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medical, Distinguished Unit Badge and Victory Ribbon. His service to his country held great meaning to Harold. He remained in touch with the men in his squadron and over the years would attend squadron reunions around the country.
A long time Woburn resident, Harold built his home on Sheridan Street where he and his wife Miriam would raise their four sons. He worked many years as a Custodian and then Head Custodian of the Woburn School System with the last few years of his career based out of the High School. Harold was a longtime member of the Church of the Open Bible.
Harold was the beloved husband of 66 years of Miriam (Gabrielson). He was the loving father of David & his wife Elaine of Idaho, Joel & his wife Roberta of NH, Peter & his wife Kathleen of Burlington and the late Paul. Father-in-law of Lori of Royalston. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harold’s name may be made to the Open Bible Academy, c/o Church of the Open Bible, 3 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803.
