Obituary of Edna Luongo

Edna L. (Christopher) Luongo, a loving wife of 70 years passed away on Tuesday morning, March 26, 2013 with her son and daughter-in-law at her bedside. She was 96 years old. Edna was born in Chelsea, the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Carl and Nancy Christopher. She had a great admiration for her parents. She grew up and was educated in Chelsea. She married Philip Luongo in September of 1939 and made their home in Somerville for many years. They moved to the Winnmere section of Burlington over 30 years ago. She was a longtime employee of Morningstar Co. which later became Data Packaging. Edna’s life revolved around her family. Edna’s best friends were always her sisters. They did everything together as girlfriends and later as couples. They took many trips together one of the most memorable was her trip to Italy. Edna was one of the best Italian cooks around. No one could top Edna’s gravy, meatballs, lasagna or eggplant. Something was always cooking at Edna’s. No matter when you stopped in to visit, you knew something great to eat would be served and you always left with a doggy bag. She would even feed the repair men that came to fix something at her house. She made everyone sit down and eat. Edna loved everyone. She really never said a bad word about anyone. Over the past couple of years Edna got to truly enjoy the companionship of her great grandchildren, along with visits from their cousin Logan, who Edna thought was the funniest little guy. They came down the cape and spent school vacations and the entire summer with her. They played card games. They let her cheat and she let them cheat and each thought the other didn’t know. They danced and entertained her, sang to her and watched television with her. They always took good care of her , served her dinner and took the meals with her and always kissed her good night. Edna was truly dedicated to God. She so believed in the power of prayer. She prayed continually for everyone that had died before her so their soul would go to heaven. She once asked the girl that gave her Holy Eucharist why God let her live so long. The girl told her, “God realizes no one prays like you on earth and for that, God is going to keep you here for awhile longer.” Edna was such a lucky women. God allowed her the opportunity to enjoy many generations of her family and for that she was truly grateful for her long life and her family. Edna was the beloved wife of 70 years of late Philip Luongo, Sr. She was the loving mother of Philip Luongo, Jr. and his wife Anne of West Dennis, formerly of Burlington.
