Obituary of Rose M. Stygles

Rose M. Stygles, a retired Assistant Vice President for BayBank, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 7, 2022. She was 95 years old. Rose was born at the family home in East Boston. She was one of two daughters born to Peter and Jennie Gargano. She grew up in Everett; and Medford in a home filled with Italian cooking, traditions, and values. She was a graduate of Medford High School Class of 1944. She married John M. Stygles, and they settled in Woburn in 1955. She stayed home with her children until they were well situated in school and then returned to the workforce as a teller at BayBank in Burlington. She was a responsible worker and had a wonderful rapport with the customers. Rose quickly moved up the ladder becoming a branch manager and eventually Assistant Vice President of the Woburn Branch. She retired after 23 years with BayBank.

Rose was an active member of the Sons of Italy in Woburn and loved all the socials the club hosted. She also volunteered at the Woburn Senior Center in the gift shop. Rose and her husband John spread their wings when their children became adults. They very quickly caught the travel bug. They traveled all over the United States, Canada, and Europe. They weren’t bashful about trying new travel experiences like an open-air train trip across Canada and a cruise aboard a working ship along the coast of Norway. She loved meeting new people, learning and experiencing history, and exploring different cultures. Rose’s outgoing, bubbly, and vivacious personality made it easy for her to blend in anywhere. She made the most of her 4 years at Country Club Heights, getting to know the staff and residents, partaking in all the activities, and living life rather than watching it pass by. She will be lovingly remembered for warmth, kindness, generosity, and especially how she made others around her feel appreciated and loved.

Rose was the beloved wife of 57 years of the late John M. Stygles. She was the loving and supportive mother of Jennifer Barone & her husband Paul of East Burke, Vermont and Michael Stygles & his wife Sandra of Pelham, NH. She was predeceased by her sister Marguerite O’Leary. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Tuesday, December 13 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with a burial in Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn.
