Obituary of Mary J. O'Brien

Mary O’Brien, a loving mother, Nana and great grandmother, passed away on January 1 at the age of 98. Mary was born to her parents James and Margaret in 1924 in Somerville where she grew up and graduated from High School. Mary was predeceased by her two sisters: Margaret and Elizabeth.   In the 1950s, Mary and her deceased husband, Walter, moved to Lexington. While living in Lexington, Mary owned and operated Minuteman Answering service for 15 years. Walter was a fire captain at Hanscom Air Force base.

Mary lived for her kids and cherished her grandchildren. She loved the beach and the ability to host the family up at their cottage in Hampton, NH. It was a great way for Mary and her precious family to be together in the summertime and play games and share memories. She loved to talk to them on the phone too. She’d ask for updates, and make sure they were doing well in school.

Mary O’Brien was the beloved wife of the late Walter O’Brien for 69+ years. She was the caring mother of Robert O’Brien of Hampton, NH, Erin O’Brien of Danvers, Richard O’Brien & Wife Cheryl of Cape Cod, and Stephen O’Brien & Wife Anne of Nashua, NH, and the late William O’Brien. She was the loving Nana to Robyn Smith, Sean O’Brien, Christopher O’Brien, Patrick O’Brien, Michael Murray, Ashley Perini Murray, and Meaghan Hodges, and Ryleigh O’Brien. Mary was the cherished Great Grandmother to Emma Rose, Ryan, Raelynn and Grayson.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Monday, January 9, from 4-7pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret Church, at St. Veronica Parish, wwwe.stveronicama.org, 111 Winn Street, Burlington on Tuesday, January 10, 10am.
