Lloyd Trenchard, a Nova Scotian immigrant and resident of Burlington for the past 46 years, passed away after a brief illness on Friday night, February 10, 2023.  He was 92 years old.  Lloyd was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.  He was the son of Herbert and Mary Trenchard.  His parents had nineteen children, but only 14 survived.  He served in the Canadian Army during the Korean War.  He held the rank of Corporal and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal and Far Eastern Service Medal.  It was during his time in the service that he went on a blind date with Ambroisine Maillet who lived in the town of Mavillette in Nova Scotia.  They fell in love and were married on June 25, 1952. In April of 1955, they immigrated to the United States and settled in Somerville. The couple had a son and three daughters. After 21 years in Somerville, they moved to Burlington, where they have made their home for the past 46 years.

Lloyd was determined to be the best provider for his family.  He started his career as a machine operator at Consolidated Paper & Box in Somerville.  He was then a machine operator for Simplex Wire and Cable in Cambridge.  He was then a manager at Service Master for 15 years.  His last position was at Dimock Community Health Center in Roxbury where he was the maintenance manager.  He turned his love for old movies into a business owning and running a movie rental store in Burlington called the “Video Connection”.

Lloyd was a humble and outgoing individual.  He was a longtime and active parishioner at St. Malachy Church.  He wanted to give his children the opportunities like a college education that were not available to him in Canada.  He and his family returned to Nova Scotia every summer to visit both their families who mostly remained in Canada.  He wanted his children to know their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, childhood friends, and the place they called home.  In their later years he and Ambroisine traveled to London and Italy.  There was also a quite memorable three-week vacation in 1990.  He and his wife and her brother and sister-in-law traveled cross country in a Recreation Vehicle.  The route to the West coast was across the United States.  The return trip was across Canada.    In his leisure time, he was an avid reader and especially enjoyed learning about history.  After his wife’s passing, he tried to fill his void by spending time at the Burlington Council on Aging.  He would participate in programs and often played cribbage with other seniors.  He and his son Kent, made it a point to get together every other Saturday morning to play a few games of cribbage and have a Bloody Mary. He even tagged along with Kent and his wife Pegi on two trips to Punta Cana.  Lloyd’s family will remember him as a man who came to the United States with nothing and through hard work to give his family a wonderful life.  They will forever remember him for his work ethic, faith, devotion to his family, and always being happy.

Lloyd was the beloved husband of Ambroisine Marie (Maillet) Trenchard who passed away in December of 2016.  He was the proud father of Kent Trenchard & his wife Pegi of North Grafton, Charlotte Klutchnikova of Redmond, WA & her late husband Al, Grace Terrio of Nashua, NH & her companion Robert McManus, and Colette Trenchard of Cambridge.  He was survived by two brothers, John and Robert Trenchard of Nova Scotia.  He was predeceased by 11 siblings: Myrna Rushtin, Evon Cavanagh, Mary Hall, Lois Taylor, Lenore Fletcher, Shirley Cann, Donald, Herbert, James, Ralph, and Graham Trenchard.  He was the proud grandfather of Paul Terrio, Michelle Fisher, Justin Trenchard, Brad Trenchard, Kristen Sauer, and Jarret Austin.  He was the great grandfather of Ashley, Paul, & Jack Terrio, Ryan & Lily Fisher, Trey, Maverick, & Atlas Austin, Madeleine & Violet Trenchard, and Lillianna, Conrad, & Adelaide Sauer.  He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Thursday, February 16 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Friday, February 17 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Malachy Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronica.org, 99 Bedford Street, Burlington at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with a burial in Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington.
