My father was very involved in the Little League program in the 1970's, and it was during that time in my childhood that I first met Sergeant Sheppard. I fondly remember him as a highly visible and rightfully proud member of the police department who was deeply admired and respected in the community. I'm so sorry for your family's loss, your father was truly a great man.

What a nice tribute. It is so nice to learn these things about Dick. What an accomplished and great life he lived. I’ll forever remember him like a second Dad to me and was always there for me when I needed him. I love this picture of him and Sandy. I’m forever grateful they made the trek to my wedding. Love and hugs to you all. Rest in peace, Dick! I will miss you!

You will be greatly missed, my church friend who I enjoyed sitting with for years at Burlington Heritage Park Baptist Church and my Burlington neighbor! He had such a big heart and a smile for everyone and was such a kind and Godly man! I was blessed to know him and his lovely wife, Sandy and for his friendship. It’s sad I won’t be sitting with him at church any more. I miss him and I’m in disbelief! Thoughts and prayers are with Sandy and his family during this difficult time. Christina Russo

My sincere condolences to Sandra, Keith and Holly, and all of his grandchildren. I am truly saddened to hear that my brother-in-law Dick passed. My fondest memory is when I first met Sandra's brother, Jim, he wanted me to meet his sister and her family. Both Dick and Sandy were very welcoming to me. I remember how Dick had such a sense of humor! He was a big guy, with a serious career, who often had a soft voice. Burlington lost one of their heroes! I am praying for God's comfort as I know the loss is great. Say hi to my Jim, Dick! All my love to Sandra, Keith and Holly.
