Obituary of Edward F Torres

Edward F. Torres, 92, passed away on February 16, 2023. Ed was born to parents Joseph and Ida (Quintal) Torres in East Cambridge. Ed grew up with a strong passion for music and became a very accomplished saxophone player, but was even more renowned for the clarinet. He played with the local symphony and moved his way up to first chair. Ed was talented enough to make a career out of his music but decided to settle down and have a family with his true love, Delores. 

Ed and Delores married in July, 1953. They made a wonderful life for their four children in Somerville before moving to Burlington in the 80s. Family was Ed’s greatest joy. He took tremendous pride in being a father, and even more in being a grandfather. Ed and Delores loved to travel which included trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Italy, and Ireland.  But the family will always remember the annual two week camping trips to White Lake State Park in the White Mountains of NH.  Every Saturday night was a card game with Ed, his father, uncle and friends.  Sunday was when the family would “go visiting” to relatives houses.  Ed and Delores were married just shy of 70 years when Delores passed in December, 2022. 

Ed will be remembered as being laid back and happy-go-lucky. He was even-keeled and good natured. He was a do-it-yourselfer and could always be found either in the garage working on the car or around the house doing repairs.  In his later years he reluctantly hired contractors, keeping a close eye on them to make sure they were doing it right.  

Ed was very proud of his many years as a Commercial Rep with New England Telephone before finishing his career as an electrical technician with Boston Edison.   He served in the 26th infantry of The National Guard.

Edward was the beloved husband of the late Delores (DiMurro) Torres of Burlington. He was the loving father of Deborah Hudgins and her husband William of Billerica, Edward Torres, Jr. and his wife Marie of Burlington, Linda Torres of Burlington, and Steven Torres and his wife Phanjaporn of Burlington. He was the proud grandfather of Katelyn Gillis and Shawn Torres and his wife Shannon. He was the great grandfather of Eddie, Joey, and Finley Gillis, and Madelyn and Olivia Torres.

A private service will be held at 8:15am at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA, on Wednesday February 22.  Interment to immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett at 10am.
