Farewell Our Friend, by Gene Martin
Our friend Gerard is gone forever, his soul free from the limits of this world.
We shared a common bond that which will live in the hearts of all of us who fought in the hell of the Chosin Reservoir. Through the horror of war, boys became men and gave to each other the strength to continue when all seemed lost. We may not have shared the same team, but the pride of the men of the Chosin Reservoir made us comrades in battle and brothers in soul. Gerard's name may not appear on any memorial, but it can never be erased from the hearts of those who knew him and fought alongside him when hell froze over at the Chosin Reservoir.
We say goodbye to a true friend as he says hello to his brothers in arms who have gone before him. We shed no tears for him because he lived his life the way he chose. The tears that are shed are for the living, those who will miss him dearly, May God forever hold Gerard in the palm of his hand and protect him as he protected others during our days of hell at the Chosin Reservoir.

So sorry for the delayed condolences, Sean and Family:
It was our distinct privilege to witness but some of Sean's acts of dedication to his Dad during his declining years; a fitting testament to the man and his loving family -- and of the faith and nation which formed all of you.
Sergeant Sweeney has answered the Last Post: the fight is done, and he follows the sound of the call to find safety and rest.
May God Bless and sustain you during this time!

Gerard was a good man with a wonderful, forgiving heart. He loved gardens and gardening. He'd walk down to our place, I'd set up and shade umbrella and plunk him in a chair. And there we'd sit, watching the birds, the cats, the wind... watching the tomatoes grow, taking about how big the squash and rhubarb would be in a month. He will be missed. Always a big smile from him, even if he hurt.
