I will miss Johnny so much! He was like a brother to me. Just recently he called me up and told me he loved me.
I have so many wonderful memories over the years. Last summer we went to see Barry Manilow at the Garden. We had a wonderful time.
We love and miss you Johnny!
God Bless you! Love - Carol, Rob, Stephen & Patrick.

Uncle, we are so heart broken but we know you’re with Nana, Papa, Uncle Pa, Auntie Lu and the rest of our family. We will miss your family group texts cheering on Boston sports teams and counting down the days before your birthday, your unapologetic sarcastic sense of humor, love for food, cooking for Christmas Eve, the license plate game, U2, but most of all the deep love you had for our entire family.
“You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom
Walk on Uncle, walk on.”
We love you so much

Johnny was a wonderful friend. When you know someone for a long time, you see all the sides of their personality. When Johnny was feeling well, he was the funniest guy in the room. He liked to stir the pot and make people just a little uncomfortable to make them laugh. But there was always love and friendship behind the jokes. As his health declined, he became more contemplative and though he was always grateful for his friends, he was more vocal about it. In the last several years, he told Andy and I hundreds of times how much he loved us and how important we were to him. We’ve missed the old Johnny for years and will miss the whole Johnny dearly. Sue, there’s nothing anyone can say to make you feel better but if you need someone to share a cup of coffee, glass of wine, or a cry, the door’s open. Love you.

I'm very sorry to hear of John's passing,
John and I knew each other since around 7th grade when I started hanging in his neighborhood with Brian Washburn. We became closest of friends growing up through High School. I recall his Mother and Father, Gloria and Whitey and his whole family very fondly as his house was a second home. John, Brian and I all went on the Crotched Mountain Ski Program together starting in Middle School and those trips are good memories and helped solidify our friendship. Street Hockey games were a favorite past time.
John got his license first in our crew and his 78' Monte Carlo is synonymous with my High School years. So many outings and memories. He drove to all our earliest concerts including Bob Seger in the Garden and U2 in the Centrum in 1984, the first of many times seeing them. Every new cassette tape we bought got tried out on his car sound system. I worked at Concord caterers with John. We spent hours at Giannelli's Restaurant where all of our friends worked. John got most of our High School crowd together and we were all very tight, both guys and girls. Sue was obviously a big part of those years and all the numerous memories.
There were memorable Bruins games with friends Dave and Ed - one where Johnny and the whole Boston Garden taunted visiting goalie Billy Smith. We saw Gretzky skate at the Garden together.
I was also in attendance when John and Sue got married.
After I moved away we kept in touch and he visited me in NYC for a memorable weekend with his friend Dave. In more recent years we've connected again and not much had changed between us. Good friends forever. He spoke of all his children with pride and I'm glad I got to meet them when they were a bit older a few years back.
He will be remembered in the best of spirits along with our good friend Thomas Christopher, who sadly also left us too early.
My sincere condolences to Susan and his family. We all knew Johnny as that same lovable guy. He had a Big Heart and will always be remembered fondly.
In lieu of being able to attend the services I will share some photos of John and good times.
Best,
Mark MacElhiney - "Maui" / "Wilbur"

I knew John ( Johnny ) when he became friends with my son Mark MacElhiney. We nicknamed him Bono because with his swept back hair and boots he looked like Bono.
I always remember him as a kind, happy kid. He always made us laugh. He was just an all around good guy.
Condolences to Susan and the DeRosa family.
God bless you all.

Sincerely sorry for your loss. Know that such a fine person will be long remembered for all the kindness he extended to others. May John's memories forever warm your hearts and bring smiles to your faces, even behind tears shed. Know that death was never God’s plan (Gen. 1:28) so he gives us hope. (Acts 24:15; Ps. 37:11,29) Cherish the hope.

I am saddened by this news. I was lucky to grow up on Irene st.with the DeRosa crew. My family was close to them all. I remember so many great times we all had and I remember how Johnny was always in the middle somehow. He always had a funny comment and his contagious laugh I can’t forget. He was a great son and brother and he always treated my parents with the utmost respect and I’ve never forgot that. He felt like a little brother to us all during our youth. It’s been awhile since I had seen Johnny but whenever I think of Burlington and our neighborhood, a constant image comes to mind of Johnny busting through the door and smiling ear to ear. You will be missed JD. Rest in peace

I have so many childhood memories with Johnny and his family. As kids, me, Johnny and Bruce Capobianco were inseparable. I had a chance to see Johnny and Sue in Boston a few years ago and met for dinner and laughed so much talking about stories growing up in Burlington. The Green Monte Carlo, the Fiero, U2, fighting on Nortons lawn, Your pool, Whitie and Gloria and their massive hearts, building forts, going to the mall, watching Bruins games, your parents Christmas Eve feast. I will miss not knowing you are there but know you will shine down on us with renewed strength and glory. ❤️
