Obituary of George Fredette

George R. Fredette, active in the Burlington Knights of Columbus and 55 year employee of Bond Bros. passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2011. He was 81 years old. George was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Joseph and Orise Fredette. He made his home in Woburn from 1932 to 1954. He attended St. Charles School from 1935 to 1943. He attended Boston College High School from 1943 to 1946 and graduated from Notre Dame DePatie High School in 1947. He attended Seminary Marist Teaching Brothers for a year before graduating from Burdett College with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. He was a member of the National Guard for 10 years as a member of 182nd Infantry in Woburn. At his discharge in 1957, he was the Company Clerk and held the rank of Sergeant. He was married in 1956 and they settled in Burlington. George was hired by Bond Bros. Construction Co. in May of 1952 and retired at the age of 77 in 2007. He grew with the company and helped manage the office operations. At the time of his retirement, he was the second longest employee with the company. He took great pride in his workmanship, organization abilities, and financial responsibility. In his retirement, he dabbled with being a Travel Agent, which gave him the opportunity to travel all around the world including destinations like Panama Canal and Alaska, Italy, France, Rome, England, and Scotland. If George was involved, you knew all your trips details were well planned out. George’s other passion was his church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church, where he served as an usher for the 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass for decades. His tradition was that after Mass, he would go out to breakfast with Fr. John Crispo and friends at Bickford’s. George joined the Knights of Columbus in 1964 and held the position of Financial Secretary for the Third Degree from 1971 to 2003 and Faithful Comptroller of the Fourth Degree since 1977. He served as the Commander of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard and participated in countless Church and Civic events, ceremonies, and parades. He was also the Member in Charge of the K of C‘s Bingo for 10 years and a member of their Degree Staff. He proudly participated in the organizations philanthropic activities as well as social events. George was the beloved husband of the late Helen M. (Croke). He was the brother of Roland & his wife Fliore of Sandy Springs, GA and the late Reverend Joseph Fredette. He was also survived by 23 nieces & nephews, 55 great nieces & nephews, and 3 great great nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
