Obituary of Frances Roberta Nicoletta
Frances Roberta (McKiel) Nicoletta, a retired cadet nurse during World War II, passed away on June 13, 2023. Frances was born to her parents Harold and Mabel McKiel and grew up in both Medford and Somerville where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. After graduating from High School, Frances went on to Nursing School. When the war ended she worked at a hospital taking care of patients with tuberculosis where she met her husband Nicolas. They were married for 28 years.
Frances and Nicolas moved to Burlington in 1960, where they raised their three children, Donald, Stephen and Janice. Frances’ children recall that Frances ran the house. Everyone respected her, and her word was final, but she was always sympathetic and open minded. She was always curious as to what the kids were involved with, and was always supportive of them. She enjoyed a close circle of friends and family and they loved spending time together.
While in Burlington, faith and community were always important to Frances. She was a member of the United Church of Christ. She also was an avid member of the Burlington Council on Aging. Frances loved to attend and host all the social events and volunteered whenever possible. Frances also enjoyed traveling. Some of her most memorable trips were to Hawaii, Alaska, California, and Italy. Later in life, Frances moved to North Carolina with her daughter and her husband to be in a warmer climate.
Frances was the beloved wife of the late Nicolas Nicoletta. She was the loving mother of Stephen Nicoletta and his wife Elizabeth of Westford, MA, Donald Nicoletta of Durham, NC, and Janice Trabucco and her husband, John of Harrisburg, NC. She was the proud grandmother of Nicole Bonacci, Christopher Trabucco, Brandon Trabucco, Denise Sgro, Adele Leonard, Andrea Nicoletta, Kenleigh Nicoletta, Taryn Strickland and the late John Nicoletta. She was the cherished great-grandmother to seven, Ella Rose Bonacci, John Bonacci, Mia Trabucco, Olivia Trabucco, Nicolas Trabucco, Caleb Sgro, and Jacob Sgro. She was the dear sister to Marilyn DeBruyn of Powder Springs, GA, and her late siblings, Ralph, John, and William McKiel, Dorothy Smith, and Helen Frazzoni.
