Obituary of Kevin Powers

Kevin Powers retired manager for Massport and car enthusiast passed away on Thursday morning, June 22, 2023. He was 77 years old. Kevin was born in Brighton. He was one of 3 children born to Arthur and Dorothy Powers. He grew up in Brighton and was a graduate of Brighton High School. He joined Local 103 of the IBEW, did his apprenticeship for four years, and then worked as an electrician for various union electrical companies in and around Boston. He worked on many of the large skyscrapers in the area and was always on call for the Harvard Club. Kevin spent the last 10 years as the manager of Electrical Services at Massport at Logan Airport. His position came considerable responsibility. He often would spend the durations of snowstorms, severe weather events, and electrical malfunctions ready to tackle any emergency that may arise.. For Kevin, it was just part of the job.

From a very early age, Kevin was interested in cars. In his late 20’s he purchased a 1958 Corvette, that could barely make the ride back to his home. It took him many years and endless hours of labor to restore the Vette to its original condition. He won many awards at car shows for the quality and authenticity of his Corvette. He also had a 1933 Vicky Hotrod that is bright red and a 2007 C6 Corvette. He would spend much of his leisure time working on and maintaining his prized cars. It was a labor of love. He was a member of the National Corvette Restoration Society with membership number 775. He was also a member of the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association. Kevin had a large group of car enthusiast friends whom he socialized, went to shows with, and worked alongside in his or their garages.

Kevin was also very involved in his family’s lives as well. He met his wife, Patricia, through a friend of her brother. He treated her like a princess, and they married in 1976. The couple settled in Newton where they raised their two sons, Sean and Chris. He coached their Little League Baseball teams and was in the stands cheering for them at their hockey games and swim meets. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills with them. Kevin believed there was always the correct method and approach to accomplish a task and shortcuts led to failure. He loved being a grandfather to Jack, Emily, and Allison. He helped watching them as their parents worked or needed a break and loved each for their unique qualities and interests. Everyone recalls Kevin’s quick wit, fun loving personality, welcoming smile, and devotion to his family.

Kevin was the beloved husband of Patricia (Murphy) Powers. He was the caring and loving father of Sean Powers of Burlington and Christopher Powers & his wife Justine of Billerica. He was the proud grandfather of Jack, Emily, and Allison Powers. He was predeceased by his siblings, John Powers and Martha Johnson.
