Yunzhu Jiang

Obituary of Yunzhu Jiang

Yunzhu Jiang, a retired manager from a textile manufacturing company in Shanghai, China, passed away on June 22, 2023, at the age of 92. Yunzhu was born in Wuxi City in Jiangsu Province.  When Yunzhu was old enough, she moved into Shanghai to begin working at a factory. While off of work one day, Yunzhu met a handsome young man named Linbiao Xu.  Linbiao was working at a different factory at the time, and both of them came from the same hometown Wuxi.  The first day they met marked the beginning of their long-lasting happy life together.  They fell in love at first sight, and became inseparable and eventually  got married.  They made a lovely home together in Shanghai.

The couple has four children, and Yunzhu was always the central figure and foundation in the lives of her children and her husband.  While the couple both worked full time, Yunzhu managed to find time from her hectic work schedule to take great care of her children and her husband.  Even by the standards of the era, she was an exceptional mom and wife.    Her children all remember her great cooking for the family - her fantastic Braised Shanghainese Duck, Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs, Spring Rolls, Wonton and other Wuxi-style and Shanghai-style food.

Yunzhu’s youngest son, John, left China in 1991 to come to the United States for his MBA study. Yunzhu and Linbiao enjoyed visiting America from China. They would site-see all over America. She and Linbiao became US citizens and moved to live in Lexington, MA in the US. It was tough to leave other family members behind in China, especially during the pandemic when travelling to China was impossible, but Yunzhu was happy to get to video chat with her kids and grandchildren in China and catch up.  Yunzhu’s family from China also came over to visit them in the US several times in the past years.

Yunzhu spent her last days living at CareOne at Lexington, a premier skilled nursing facility serving patients in need of short term rehabilitation and medical management programs.  She was always appreciative to her doctors, nurses and aides for all the care and attention they gave her.  Yunzhu’s health declined over the last few months after losing her husband in January this year.  Even with the circumstances she was facing, she kept her positive attitude.  Her children flew over from China to come see her and she was overjoyed with happiness and peace at their sight.  She was even able to facetime her younger sister Wenzhu Jiang in China. All these special moments will be cherished by the whole family.

Yunzhu was a strong woman with perseverance and did her best in her work and for the family.  In the mean time, she was a soft and compassionate person with warm heart, and was always the first one to offer help to other people.   She will be remembered for her kindness and friendly spirit.

Yunzhu was the loving wife of the late Linbiao Xu. She was the beloved mother of Xianhua Xu & her husband Zhangfu Tian of China, Xionghua Xu & his wife Xiaofang Li of China, Minhua Xu & her husband Heyun Yang of China, and Xiongyi Xu & his wife Hui Zhou of Lexington, MA.  She was the dear grandmother of Qijun Tian, Zhuojia Xu, Xiaotian Yang, Jeffrey Xu and Lillian Xu.  Yunzhu was a beloved friend to many at Greeley Village in Lexington where she lived, and also a dear sister to her church members of Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston.

A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803, on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  Burial will be private.
