Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Marchese (Conti) passed away peacefully on June 27, 2023 at the age of 90, just two weeks shy of her 91st birthday.

Dottie was raised in Newton and was the eldest of three children born to the late Mary and Donato (Sallese) Conti. She established a life in Burlington in 1958 alongside her husband of 55 years, James Marchese, former director of the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department. Together they raised their four sons. While prioritizing her family, Dottie dedicated 35 years of her career to Lord and Taylor, located in the Burlington Mall. She had a talent for forming meaningful connections with individuals she encountered, demonstrating a genuine appreciation for everyone she met. In addition, she was active in her community and supported organizations and clubs such as the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club. Lastly, you cannot talk about Dottie without acknowledging that she was a wonderful cook and hostess. Whether you were family, friend, or acquaintance, you could never leave without taking home a plate or two, whether hungry or not.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband (James) and son James Marchese, Jr. She held a cherished role as the matriarch in the lives of her surviving family members, including James Jr.'s wife Patricia of Attleboro, Stephen G. Marchese and Jacqueline of Burlington, Daniel L. Marchese and Marjorie of Minnesota, and Paul E. Marchese and Joan of New Hampshire. Additionally, she was the sister of Daniel and his late wife Hilda, and MaryAnn Conti and her partner Emery Aucoin. Her presence will be dearly missed leaving behind a loving legacy for her nieces, nephews, grandchildren: Patricia McCoy, Nicole Margeson, Danelle Schneider, Stephen G., James, Kyle, Kathryn, Stephen R., Paul II Marchese, and great-grandchildren: Deborah, Stephen C., Issacc, Brenden, Ashton, Paisley, Benjamin, Abigail, Edith and Estelle Marchese, Ailey, Jules, Brynn, and Nora McCoy, Patrick Drudy, Andrew Margeson, and Christopher Schneider.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, June 30 from 4-7 p.m.  Funeral from the Funeral Home on Saturday, July 1 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m.  Services will conclude with a burial in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.  In lieu of flowers memorials in Dorothy’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjudge.org  For directions, obituary, online guestbook & live stream of Funeral Mass see www.sullivanfuneralhome.net
