Obituary of Joan M Passero

Joan M. Passero a retired tax preparer and budget analyst passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.  She was 85 years old.  Joan was born in Boston.  She was one of two daughters born to Louis and Marie Passero.  She grew up in Somerville between Teele and Davis Square. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1955 and then graduated from Boston University in 1959.  She worked for 35 years at Honeywell as a Budget Analyst.  She then worked full-time as a tax preparer for Tonneson + Co in Wakefield until she was 75 years old.  She has spent the last 10 years working part-time and volunteering her tax services with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide at the Woburn Senior Center.

Joan lived a vibrant life.  She was literally a world traveler.  She visited every continent except Antarctica. Sometimes she traveled with her sister or her nieces and nephews and other times with friends.  She was an avid skier and a member of the ski club.  She skied every weekend during the ski season well into her 70’s, often staying at the Newton Christmas Tree Lodge in Vermont with club members.  Summers were spent at her condo and then home in South Dennis.  She loved the cape dearly and hosted friends and family often throughout the years Her family was a very important part of her life.  She was a loving and supportive daughter to her parents up until their passing.  She was a loving sister and best friend to her sister Pauline.  She was extremely generous and loved every moment shared with her nieces and nephews.  She also made sure she kept the family bond with all her cousins as well.

Joan was the loving daughter of the late Louis and Marie Passero. She was the caring sister of Pauline Newton & her husband Arthur of Burlington. She was the proud and adventurist aunt of Judy Newton of S. Dennis, Paula Mountain & her husband David of Danvers, Arthur “Bobby” Newton & his wife Kelly of Orlando, FL, David “Davey” Newton of Beaverton, OR, and Jim “JT” Newton of Burlington & his partner Steven Wooden of Taunton.  She was also survived by 10 great nieces and nephews, 5 great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Wednesday, July 12 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13 at 9:45 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Church, 2254 Massachusetts Ave, North Cambridge at 11 a.m.  Services will conclude with a burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
