Obituary of Barbara Ann Morrissey
Barbara Ann Morrissey, a loving mother and proud member of her community, passed away on September 8, at the age of 85. Barbara was born to her parents, John and Margaret Buchanan in Brighton MA, and she grew up in Allston. Barbara went to St. Columbkille High School in Brighton. After school, she became a counselor at the community center in Brighton where she met her husband, William Morrissey, after he returned from military service. They married and settled in Burlington in 1962, where they raised their children, Bonnie and William.
Barbara and William had a passion for traveling together, especially on cruises. They snowbird down in Florida, and come springtime, Barbara and Bonnie would drive back up to Burlington together, making a fun sight-seeing trip out of the journey. Barbara was a proud member of the St. Margaret’s Parish and went to daily mass up until her health did not permit her to go any more. Barbara loved decorating her house for all holidays and events. She proudly displayed a wide variety of decorations inside and outside, from Christmas to Easter, Halloween to St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day to the 4th of July. Barbara always hosted friends and family at her house for the 4th of July, because, living on Winn Street, the parade route passed right by her house. She loved being around friends and family and made sure her home was welcoming to all.
Barbara was the loving wife of the late William Morrissey. She was the beloved mother of Bonnie Morrissey of Burlington, William Morrissey III of Tewksbury. She was the dear sister to Georgia Connors, of Milford, CT, and Midge Oster, John Buchanan, William Buchanan, and Dorothy Koch. She was the caring sister-in-law to Virginia.
A visitation for Barbara will be held on Friday, September 15, from 10 to 11:30am, at 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA, 01803, followed by a Noon funeral mass at St. Margaret’s, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA, 01803. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local animal shelter, a good cause, or doing a good deed in Barbara’s honor.
