Maria Sestokas

Obituary of Maria E Sestokas

Maria E. Sestokas worked for the United States Postal Service until the age of 70 passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, September 30, 2023. She was 74 years old.

Maria was born in Boston. She was the daughter of Louise and Onofrio “Nifty” Marcarelli. Growing up the Marcarelli home was filled with Italian traditions and values. The most important was that of the Family. Maria pretty much lived her entire life in a one-mile square of Medford including her childhood home, her home, and lastly her apartment at Stations Landing. She was extremely proud to call herself a “Medford Townie”. Maria was a single parent and much of her life was spent raising her children and providing for the family. She worked at the Post Office from 1984 to 2021. She spent many of those years working nights so she could be home for her children during the daytime hours. Maria loved working at and the camaraderie and friendship shared with her coworkers. If she didn’t have any health issues, she would have been still working today. She was extremely thankful to always have her mother, Louise, living nearby to help her with her children.

Maria loved people. At Stations Landing, she would spend much of her time in the common area chatting up a storm with all her neighbors. She had friends of all ages and loved hearing their stories, talking about family, or any other topic of the day. She was a member of Parents Without Partners for many years. She appreciated the support and confidence the organization provided. She loved testing her luck at the casino.  She enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, Encore, and for special occasions, Las Vegas. She was a faithful supporter of the United Way.

Maria was the loving mother of Ann Marie Hancock & her husband Stephen of Laconia, NH and Richard Sestokas & his companion Jill of San Francisco, CA. She was the proud grandmother of Sophia and Isabella Hancock. She was also survived by her brothers Gary Marcarelli of Florida and Michael Marcarelli of Washington, D.C.

The family will be having a celebration of life in Plum Island for Maria in lieu of a funeral on October 15th.  Please reach to Maria’s family if you would like to attend.
