Obituary of Louisa Griffin

Louisa C. Griffin, a retired secretary, passed away in Florida on Thursday, May 2, 2013. She was 94 years old. Louisa was born in Leeds, Maine, the daughter of the late Percy and Mary Merrill. She grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She went onto to attend Business School in Auburn, Maine and later graduate from the School of Nursing at the Robert Brigham Hospital in Boston. She worked as a nurse at the Choate Hospital in Woburn during the 1950’s and then as a secretary at the Foxborough Company and Techweld Company. Louisa had lived in Burlington for 25 years. It was there that she raised her 3 children. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Woburn. She had spent the last 30 years in Sarasota, FL. Louisa was a very strong and self-sufficient woman, who outlived 2 husbands and lived independently to her death at age 94. Her family was greatest joy and despite her living in Florida, she had a strong bond with all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always looked forward to family visits, phone calls, and the latest news within her family. Louisa was the wife of the late George Griffin and James Griffin. She was the loving mother of Richard of Burlington, Donald of Bradenton, FL, and the late Karen Parsons of Woburn. She was the sister of Wilfred Merrill of PA, the late Edwin and Charles Merrill. Louisa was also survived by 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Thursday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington.
