Obituary of Evelyn "Jean" Johnson
Evelyn “Jean” Johnson, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on October 17, 2023 at the age of 88.
Jean was born to her parents Charles and Ada, and grew up in Stoneham. After graduating from Stoneham High School, Jean entered the workforce, working many years in various administrative positions. While working, Jean met the love of her life, Richard Johnson. The two dated and were married in 1958. They settled in Burlington where they welcomed their two daughters, Nancy and Sandy.
Jean was always so grateful for her family. Jean said that Richard was her one true love, and after he passed in 1968 she never remarried and cherished the time she had with her daughters. Yearly family trips with her extended family made Jean the happiest. Jean treasured her time with her three grandkids, Melanie, Jimmy and Katie, attending birthday parties and celebrating holidays together, and checking in on them and catching up over the phone.
Jean’s favorite leisure activity was watching the Boston Red Sox, though with the energy she used to root for them, one could hardly call it leisure. Jean has been a die-hard Sox fan her whole life. She got to watch everyone from Ted Williams to Pedro Martinez, Jason Varitek and Big Papi, David Ortiz and had a fantastic time celebrating their 4 World Series wins with her family. NESN was the only TV station on from March to October. Once the fall came around, Jean shifted her focus to the Patriots, who got her through the winter and back to Spring Training in March. Jean also enjoyed going to bingo and to the casinos, and loved to go to Foxwoods to play slots. She had a very fun day recently when her nursing home took a trip to a local casino. Even at the age of 88 she still loved to play the slots.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Richard Johnson. She was the loving mother to the late Nancy Smith and her husband James Jr. of Derry, NH and Sandy Trull and her husband Mike of Londonderry, NH. She was the caring grandmother to Melanie Paul and her husband Adam, Jimmy Smith, and Katie Smith. Jean was the treasured great-grandmother of Macey, Braylen, Kinley, and Sayler Paul. She was the dear sister to Ruth Michienzi of Burlington, Shirley Garside of Burlington, Cathy Minichiello of Burlington, and Alice Bond of Kennewich, Washington and her late siblings Louis Bamberg, Charles Bamberg, Phyllis LaLiberte and Robert Bamberg. She was also the half-sister to Julie Stobo of Londonderry, NH. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Jean will be held on October 26, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803.
