Obituary of John Henry Smith III

John “Jack” Henry Smith III, a Devoted Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023. John was born May 22, 1943 in Chelsea, MA, to the late John Henry Smith Jr. and Winifred M. (Cormier) Smith.
John’s roots started in Chelsea, MA until moving to Burlington, MA. He attended Somerville High Trade School and got his diploma in carpentry. Later in life, he decided to go to college alongside his son, John IV. They both graduated and John III received his bachelor’s degree. He eventually built his forever home on Jenness Pond in Northwood, NH. John was in the Local 40 Carpenters Union and even had his hand in the building of the Prudential building in Boston, MA until he finally retired.
John’s passion was riding his Harley Road King, antique Corvette, and had a passion for collecting cuckoo clocks. He was a skilled carpenter, willing to share his knowledge to anyone. He loved his Boston sports teams, deep sea fishing as well as eating a good seafood feast. John also enjoyed being a snowbird, traveling down to Port Orange, FL for many years to escape the winters of New Hampshire.
John is survived by his children Robert C. Smith and significant other of Barnstead, NH, Cheryl M. (Smith) Doby and husband Marcus Doby of Woburn, Ma. John was the proud Grandfather to his six Grandchildren, John H Smith V, Krystal Castle and her husband Demetrius, Stephen M Smith and his wife Theresa, Marcus Doby, Spencer Smith and Kortni Doby. He was the treasure Great-Grandfather to his five Great Grandchildren, Serenity, DJ, Phoebe, Ellie, and Trevor. He was the caring brother-in-law to Mary Theresa Smith. John is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. John also had many lifelong friends that he leaves behind.
John is predeceased by his son John H Smith IV, his brother Francis W. Smith and sister Elaine M. Smith.
He treasured his family and friends and loved spending time together.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 30, from 4 to 7 PM at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington, MA 01803. A Funeral Mass for John will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803 at 10 AM. Family and Friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9 AM to drive together in procession. Burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, 52 Bedford Street, Burlington, MA 01803 to follow.
