Dearest Betty, On All Souls Day last week, you left this world rather abruptly and gloom has been a presence in my life ever since. You were a larger than life person, Betty, who sanctified the many roles that LIFE and LOVE asked you to assume. I met you first as the mother of a large and legendary family; later, more intimately, in the role as a caregiver in your public ministry. In that capacity, you blessed many lives, Betty, including my sister Anne's in whose life you became a constant because you always looked beyond her invalidism and focused on her as a person. You sought her essence and found her soul...Thank you for having been my sister's angel and my beloved friend. Dear Melanson Family, Please accept our heartfelt condolences as you mourn the loss of your mother.....a long time friend of my mother, Helen McLaughlin, and great caregiver and friend to my beautiful late aunt and Godmother, Anne Flaherty - She truly was like "family" to us - with her unwavering loyalty and compassion to the Flaherty family as well as to my Mom - they shared a special bond. I am so glad that my Mom was able to celebrate with her during her 90th birthday celebration this past summer - a milestone they both reached this past year! Betty will always hold a special place in our hearts... I am loss for words. Betty was like a nana to my kids growing up not to mention Erin's kids today. We are going to miss your smile, your welcoming nature, your oatmeal raisin cookies (they were the best) and of course days sitting on your porch, in your kitchen or living-room with some good laughs. So I raise good glass of RED in your memory because it will live on. We will miss you so very much!

Betty was a bright light in the lives of not only her family but everyone who knew her. We always enjoyed seeing and spending time with her at family events. She always had the same radiant smile on her face every time we saw her. She left an amazing legacy and all of us who had the pleasure to know her will miss her wonderful spirit and sense of humor. Rest in peace Betty.
