Obituary of Richard A. Garber

Richard A. Garber, a resident of Burlington for 58 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the age of 85. Born in Belmont MA, Richard spent his formative years in Waltham and Belmont, graduating from Belmont High School before bravely enlisting in the Air Force at the age of 17 to fight in the Korean War, achieving the rank of Airman Third Class during his two years of service.

Upon returning home, he married the love of his life- Sharon Cunningham, and together they established their lifelong residence in Burlington in 1965. Richard devoted most of his career to property management, serving as a dedicated maintenance director. He possessed a remarkable ability to repair and construct, finding joy in home improvement projects, notably building his own deck and taking immense pride in his lawn.

In recent years, Richard selflessly cared for his beloved wife, Sharon, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to family. He was a source of pride and affection as a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, affectionately known as Grampy. While he loved all of his grandchildren, he shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Jessica. Richard and Jessica treasured their weekly calls, engaging in heartfelt conversations where he expressed his love and made her feel incredibly special, especially during moments when she needed it most.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Cunningham), and remembered fondly as the caring dad (Poppy) of Deborah DeForest & her husband John of Bellingham, father of Michael Garber & his wife Julie of Taunton, and the late Richard Garber. He was the dear brother of Shirley Castagno & her husband Al of Woburn and Robert Garber of Belmont. Richard will forever remain in the hearts of his cherished grandchildren: Kelly Gordon & her husband A.J. of Rehoboth, Jessica Schlicting of Brighton, and Samantha Pappadopoulos & her husband Kevin of Attleboro. He was also the adored great-grandfather of Cole and Casey Gordon.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, on Saturday, Nov. 25, from Noon to 2 p.m. For online condolences and directions, please visit www.sullivanfuneralhome.net.
