Obituary of Ruth G. McCann
Ruth G. (Dennen) McCann a 45 year resident off Burlington passed away after a long illness at the Hospice House in Reading on Saturday evening, July 31. She was 83 years old. Mrs. McCann was born in Arlington the daughter of the late Charles and Annie Dennen. She was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. Mrs. McCann and her husband lived briefly in Lindenhurst, NY and Cleveland, OH prior to settling in Burlington where they raised their 7 children.
Mrs. McCann was an active parishioner at St. Agnes Church in Arlington and then St. Margaret's Church in Burlington. She sang with St. Margaret's Choir, was a former soloist at St. Agnes Church, and a member of The Handel & Hayden Choral Society in Boston. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters at both St. Margaret's Church and St. Agnes Church. She was also a member of the Cushing Club at St. Agnes Church.
Mrs. McCann's husband Walter is an active member of the Burlington Knights of Columbus and together they participated in many of the activities, events, and socials at the council. She had performed in many of the Knights of Columbus Minstrel Shows.
Mrs. McCann was a devoted and active mother. She involved herself in many activities that involved her children including both the Burlington PTO and Burlington Boosters. Mrs. McCann enjoyed sports and was a member of the St. Margaret's Bowling League for many years. She was also a good sport about going on the many family camping trips.
Mrs. McCann is the beloved wife of J. Walter McCann. She is the loving mother of Mildred & her husband Al Vigneau of Lowell, Helen & her husband Vincent Pastore of West Haven, CT, William F. McCann & his wife Maria of Burlington, David W. McCann & his wife Rebecca of Townsend, Ruth & her husband Joseph Lackie of Middleton, Elizabeth & her husband Richard Chaput of Franklin, and Richard C. McCann & his wife Patricia of Burlington. She is the sister of the late Marguerite Buckley, Lillian Garland, Edna Jones, Mildred, Lawrence, Gertrude, Helen, Rose and Charles Dennen. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday August 4 at 9 a.m, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church, Burlington, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
