Obituary of Rocco Mastrodomenico

Rocco Mastrodomenico, 94, of Stoneham and formerly of Burlington, passed away Thursday Nov. 30th.

He was born in Montclair, New Jersey the son of first-generation Italian immigrants Alberto and Angelina (Lettieri) Mastrodomenico. He was educated in the Cambridge school system and worked for many years as a maintenance worker for the United States Postal Service.

He was very proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed his time crafting delicious homemade sausages and making his own wine with his family. His culinary talents not only delighted the taste buds of many but also served as a reflection of his deep connections to his roots. The mayor of Cambridge actually referred to Rocco as the maestro of Wine.

Known for his charisma and gregarious nature, Rocco effortlessly drew people into his circle, creating lasting connections with those fortunate enough to know him, especially with his early morning Dunkin Donuts group. He was a dedicated reader, finding solace in pages of political and historical literature. His intellectual curiosity knew no bounds, and he approached each book with the same meticulous attention that defined his character.

At the age of 22 Rocco Enlisted in the Army and served overseas during the Korean war. He obtained the rank of Corporal prior to his Honorable Discharge. After his deployment he met his wife of over 30 years, Patricia Murphy. The two were happily wed and shared a beautiful life together raising their children in Burlington and Stoneham. After Patricia passed in 1988 and he retired from the postal service, Rocco took a job with the town of Burlington as a transportation specialist. This job entailed driving retired men and women in Burlington to appointments and functions. The competitions to sit as the up-front passenger with Rocco were well known throughout the retirement community due to his natural charismatic nature.

He is survived by his loving children, Patricia Mastrodomenico, of Beverly, Linda Ann Zollo and her fiancĂ© Harry Samolchuk of Gloucester and Rocco Mastrodomenico and his wife Christine of Worcester, he was a proud papa to, Nicholas Mastrodomenico of Slingerlands, NY and Elena Mastrodomenico of Worcester, a caring brother of, Rosie Laborio of Johnston, RI and the late Connie Cameron. and a fun-loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.
