Neit Valeriani - NE assistant and head hockey coach
Not only was Bill a rival coach but he was also a friend!
Even though we were competitors on the ice. we remained friends. There was a mutual respect for both programs. Both squads and fans would look forward to that game, whether home or away it was usually packed.
I was inducted as an assistant coach by the MSCHA because of Bill.
My sincere condolences to the entire Gordon family. He made the world a better place with his students and his players and his family. RIP my friend.

Janis and the Gordon family - It is with a heavy heart I want to express my deepest sympathy on the passing of your husband, father, and grandfather. Bill was a colleague and rival during the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's but mostly he was a dear friend. While reading the Boston Globe story today about this year's Shawsheen team, I was shocked to read of his untimely passing. I am truly sorry to have missed his service. Many of my fondest memories of coaching high school hockey involve the epic Shawsheen - Northeast games of that era when our teams battled for league and state titles.
My condolences to the entire Gordon family. He will be dearly missed by you but also by his high school hockey family.

I was sent to tonight’s game (02/01); I don’t know why; Tech won, but we had a moment of silence for Bill Gordon (a.k.a. Coach) before game and I was shocked; I didn’t know, and sorry I missed the services; but if I was lead here to speak for the 1983-1985 teams; we love Coach forever and hope he is in a better place! He held all of us to a higher standard and pushed us to our higher limits on and off the ice, and we’ll never forget him! One last piece of advice coach…. duck! LOL!

I worked with Bill at North Shore Tech and Essex North Shore until his retirement. Bill was the best!! A group of us at NST would have lunch every Friday together and he was one of the people that would join us!! I could always count on him to give an accurate answer to the students questions. He always had a smile on his face that I looked forward to seeing each morning. Keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I had the pleasure of covering The Shawsheen Hockey team for local weekly papers back in the late 90's. Bill was always a great interview and usually deflected credit to his fellow coaching staff and players. We all know that The Shawsheen Tech had a pool and not an ice rink and ice time for practice was before school. After the Program won its 350th game, He told me that “5:00 am practices are a character builder and not everyone can do it, anyone that shows that kind of commitment is easy to motivate. “He was truly proud of his teams and remembered all who played for him not just the State Championship team. (Though he held them in high regard.) He also enjoyed when the Rams had an afternoon game so he could still attend his son’s game in Burlington. One of my fondest memories was when his team pounded Lynn Tech 10-0 but the goaltender for Lynn Tech made 60 saves. Bill took the time to speak to that student athlete after the game and made his day. Bill was a great high school hockey historian and could tell you when each of the MDC rinks were constructed. Truly a great storyteller. He will be missed but his memory will live on. If you listen carefully, you can still hear him whistling with his fingers for line change from the bench. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Billy.

I am so sorry to learn of Bill's passing. We just spoke not too long ago. I worked with Bill at North Shore Tech and at Essex Tech for the duration of his time at each. We shared a work pod as well. I love chatting with Bill and reminiscing. I played hockey for Marblehead back in the day while he was coaching at Shawsheen. I cannot explain the depth of the awesome conversations and the multiple laughs that we shared together over the years! I will miss Bill so much as he was one of the "keepers" from life that I have met. May God rest your soul, "Billy." And may He give your family and friends the strength, comfort and time that they need to deal with their loss.

Awesome, awesome person. Provided so much information, but in a nice, informative way. Always helpful. So funny, at times. If he could help, he did. He never expected anything in return. He was so nice to me and he didn't even know me. May God comfort his family, especially his wife, Janis. (Another awesome person.)
