It is with a heavy heart that I say farewell to Donald. He was a great man and like a grandfather to my two sons. He was a father figure to me and I was blessed to have him and Anna in not only my life but in the lives of ny children. I’ve never known another man like Don. He would play for hours with my sons. He went out of his way to be a part of our lives. He made my boys happy and I saw him light up because of it. He never once showed me anything but kindness and understanding. Don McGowan, you are already missed. I hope that you are with Steve and smiling. Christopher Jonathan and I will keep your memory alive in our hearts.I know that Anna will find you and the two of you will both be watching over everyone that you loved. Thank you for showing me and my sons what a good man is. We love you, Don. Rest in peace. You deserve it.

God bless you Don my friend. I will miss our friendly political arguments and the trading of jokes and stories every day. Patty did a beautiful job with your obituary!

I worked with Don for many years at IBM in Boston. His quick wit and warmth brightened the work day for all of us. He was a dear friend and much loved colleague. His stories and jokes still bring a smile to my face. My heart goes out to your family.

Dear Anna, Patti, and McGowan family, It was my privilege to know Don during 30 years with IBM. I thought I knew him - kind, intelligent, hard working, loyal friend - but I had no idea his impact on his community and particularly children. Don embodies "not letting your right hand know what you left hand is doing" - he did good for the good, not for the credit. My being an Italian child who grew up in an all Irish neighborhood (these are still my best friends), I could have used an Irishman who spoke Italian! That will happen in heaven. Love to you all, and let us find hope in one day being with Don. Peter and Cora Castaldi P.S. Len Johnson friend from my neighborhood assured me I was invited to both his sons' weddings to lovely Italian girls so the families would know he had an Italian friend.

Uncle Don was a wonderful family man, and a wonderful uncle. He had a beautiful 61-year marriage with my Aunt Anna. Uncle Don's contribution to local baseball is still appreciated by folks in the region where they lived. I always enjoyed his stories of his time in the Navy. Uncle Don was kind and giving to many people in his various endeavors.
His light will continue to shine bright.

In 1981, Don and 5 other gentlemen had a vision to link town baseball leagues in eastern Mass. After 2 years of planning, the Bay State Baseball League was launched. Now in its 42nd year, the league brings together over 130 teams from 60 communities, serving thousands of young baseball players each summer. His legacy is immortalized when, each year, the league champion is presented the Don McGowan Champions Cup to display in their town. He impacted thousands of young kids and provided many managers and coaches over the past 42 years purpose and fulfillment. He will be missed around the fields and in the board meetings.

I was so sorry to hear of Don's passing. I just mentioned to my husband that I had not heard anything from Don since the fall. I met Don when he became a Business Partner at IBM in 1996. He was very kind to me when my father died of Prostate Cancer. We formed a long distance friendship and stayed in touch up until now. My sympathies to Don's wife Ana and his daughter Patty. May he rest in Peace.
