Obituary of Claire Helene Lowthers

Claire Helene Lowthers, a 60-year resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully at her home with her children by her side on Saturday, February 3, 2024.  She was 91 years old.  Claire was born in Melrose and grew up in Medford.  She was the daughter of Henry Fillebrown and Barbara Bickerton (Fillebrown) Twinem.  She was the stepdaughter of the late George Twinem. Claire was a graduate of Malden High School 1950. Married Walter then lived to Arlington for 6 years before settling in Woburn in 1963.

Claire’s first priority was always her family. She entered the work force after raising her five children.

Claire loved sports. She was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.  She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play baseball, lacrosse, football and perform in dance recitals. Her favorite activities were to play Bingo and going to various casinos, whether on land or at sea.

Traveling was another of her favorite things to do. All she needed was an invitation or a suggestion and she would have her bags packed and was ready to go.  She went on vacations with her children to Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and Maine.  She went on trips to Ireland, Spain, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, Grand Canyon, Florida and numerous other trips around the world, including cruising through Alaska, the Caribbean numerous times and the Panama Canal.

Claire was fiercely independent with a sharp mind.  She had a knack for doing jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, sudoku, and other games to keep her challenged. Her passing leaves heavy hearts to all that knew her, but leaving them a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and love.

Loving mother of Gary Lowthers & his wife Robyn of Haverhill, Carol Lowthers of Woburn, Barbara Lambert & her husband Mark of New Gloucester, ME, Lynn Devoe & her husband Steve of Tewksbury, and Mark Lowthers & his wife Susan of Ashby.  Loving sister of the late Norma Kyper, Kenneth Fillebrown and his wife, Lucille of Lebanon, NH, the late George Twinem, and the late John Twinem and his wife Jackie of North Fort Meyers, FL. Proud grandmother of  Michael Lowthers, Dan Devoe, Nicole Devoe, Isaiah Lambert, April Lambert, Kelli Lowthers, Noah Lowthers, Grace Lowthers. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Wednesday, February 7 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8 at 10 a.m.  Services will conclude with a burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
