Obituary of Marjorie Murphy

Marjorie G. Murphy, a woman of faith and family passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Monday morning, June 17, 2013. She was 88 years old. Marjorie was born in New Brunswick Canada, the daughter of the late George and Grace Damery. She grew up in Chatham New Brunswick Canada. She lived on the family farm and she worked as the only teacher at Middle Island School, which was a one room schoolhouse. She met her future husband, an American, when he visited the family home on a weeklong fishing trip. He returned again the next year, where their romance blossomed. They were married in 1953 and settled in Somerville. They purchased their home in Burlington in 1965. Once she became a mother, she stopped working and focused all her love and attention on her family. She was the type of mother, who always had a hot breakfast waiting for her family, made clothes for her girls, family dinners, perfectly maintained her home, and welcomed all her children’s friends. She never forgot her family and friends in Canada, and routinely returned to New Brunswick. Her warmth and love shined in all that Marjorie did. Marjorie was a woman of great faith. She found a home at the Burlington Presbyterian Church. She was an extremely active parishioner, participated in most of the activities, committees, and events, and even served as a Deacon at the church. She loved to sing in and out of church.
