Obituary of Susan Thompson

Susan Thompson, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away peacefully Tuesday night, April 9, 2024.  She was 82 years old.  Susan was born and raised in Winchester.  She was the daughter of Walter and Isabel Scott.  She was a graduate of Winchester High School and then earned her associate degree from Laselle College in Newton.  She worked for Jordan Marsh and then Macy’s for over thirty years.  She enjoyed the convenience of working close to home and seeing friends and neighbors on her daily walks.

Susan’s life revolved around her family.  She and her husband Bob had a wonderful life together.  They were active members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Burlington for 30 years.  They volunteered on a number of church ministries and enjoyed the social events held at the church.  They also traveled extensively around the world, seeing all the wonders, visiting historical landmarks, delving themselves in different cultures, and opening their minds to the world outside of Burlington Massachusetts.  Summer days were spent in Annisquam Massachusetts, going to the beach, eating fried clams, and enjoying family.  Being a mother of three very active boys kept her on her toes.  She was warm and welcoming to her children’s friends and had a supply of her much loved chocolate chip cookies whenever they stopped by.  Family summer vacations were spent at Westwood Cottages in Bridgeton, Maine.  Often it was the same families vacationing the same weeks every year and became lifelong friends.

She was a fun and loving Gramma Sue to her grandchildren & great granddaughter.

Susan lived an active life.  She played tennis with her girlfriends for years and traveled often to see friends & family. She loved walking the neighborhood and chatting with neighbors she came across.  She was a loyal Red Sox, Bruins & Patriots fan.  Sue was a huge Neil Diamond fan and went to 14 concerts over the years.  She loved entertaining and always made the holidays special and memorable.  In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening.

Susan lived a wonderful life filled with adventures, faith, and family.  She will be missed, but her family is comforted that her suffering from dementia is over, and she is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Bob and her siblings.

Susan was the beloved wife of the late Robert Grady Thompson who passed away in 2019.  She was the loving mother of Alan Page & his wife Cheryl of Medford, Jeff Page & Holly Cunningham of Billerica, and Brian Page & his wife Laurie of Haverhill.  She was the stepmother of Matthew Thompson & his wife Bernice of Spencer, Cheryl Foley & her husband Duncan of Mt. Vernon, NH, and Lynn Thompson of Plumb Island, Ma.  She was the sister of Walter Scott of Waltham, the late Richard Harvey, Ken Harvey, and Sarah Bursey.  Susan was the proud grandmother of Erin Kangas, Jennifer Morris, Lindsay Page, Christine Page, Michael Page, Aidan Fitzgerald, Maggie Fitzgerald, Owen Foley & Cam Foley. She was the great grandmother to Kerry Morris.

Susan leaves behind several nieces, nephews and many close friends that will miss her dearly.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 16 from 4 to 6pm. and will conclude with a funeral service at the funeral home at 6pm.
