Obituary of Joan Marie Leone

Joan Marie (Madden) Leone, a retired administrative assistant who worked for a number of companies over her career, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 11, 2024.  She was 71 years old.  Joan was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Madden.  She grew up in Brighton and attended Brighton High School.  Prior to her senior year, her family moved to Burlington, and she went on to graduate from Burlington High School. She met her future husband, Joseph Leone, a Brighton boy, through her cousins while vacationing in Cohasset. They were married in 1975 and started their lives together back in Brighton. They had three very active boys who were all involved in sports, especially hockey and baseball.   

Joan enjoyed her time with her family. She was a loving and supportive mother to her three sons.  Family vacations were spent at White Horse Beach in Plymouth. She relished being a grandmother and adored when her grandchildren would visit. She especially enjoyed spending warm summer days with them at her pool.

She and her twin sister, Jean, were inseparable.  They did so much together as sisters and as a family.  They vacationed together, went to Bingo, shopped, celebrated the holidays, and talked daily.  Joan also loved her dogs, Jordy, and Simba.  They were great company to her especially when her husband Joe passed away in 2017.  Joan was outgoing and would talk to anyone with an open ear.  Joan was a loving and devoted wife, a caring and supportive mother, a loving sister, and a proud grandmother.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Leone.  She was the loving mother of Joseph Leone of Billerica, Michael Leone & his fiancée Brianna Crannell of Marlborough, and Daniel Leone of Newton.  She was the proud grandmother of Michael Leone, Gabriella Leone, Emma Leone, Arya Leone, Tyler McCarthy, and Kaylee McGowan.  She was the twin sister of Jean Paton of Burlington & her late husband Mel Paton and Joseph Madden & his wife Emily of Billerica.  She was the special aunt to Sarah and Diana Madden. 

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Monday April 22 from 5-7pm. and will conclude with a funeral service at the funeral home beginning at 7pm.  Joan will be laid to rest with her husband Joe on Tuesday at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
