Obituary of Gail Metivier
Ruth Gail (Busher) Metivier, age 76, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Methuen on Friday, April 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Gail was the dear wife of George D. Metivier III, with whom she had shared almost 54 years of marriage.
Born in Boston, MA on March 29, 1948 she was the second of seven children to the late John Busher and Frances (Finnigan) Busher. Gail graduated from Somerville High School, and then went on to settle down and start her family. Although she also worked in a professional setting for many years after being a stay-at-home Mom until her youngest was in middle school, her proudest title was that of devoted Mother and Nana. When her children were young, the whole family would spend entire summers at York Beach, ME and she would host beautiful holiday celebrations at their home in Burlington. She was always going the extra mile to make sure her family had quality time together, and could truly feel how much she loved them.
In her free time, Gail would often be found either with her family, shopping, going to dinner/lunch and a movie, or going on day trips to various destinations throughout New England. She relished every moment she had with her grandchildren, and jumped at any opportunity that presented itself to take them on her shopping journeys to spoil them. She also always made it a point to attend all of her grandkids’ activities, including dance recitals, sporting events, and school programs. Her generosity, kindness, and compassion truly knew no bounds. She never wanted to be the center of attention, but Gail was a social butterfly at her core. She was someone you could depend on when you needed to hear a kind word, or needed support for whatever life handed you. Her gentle, yet funny way made her an easygoing, safe space for her friends and family to come back to – any time, any place. Above everything else in this life, Gail valued her children and grandchildren more than anything, and took great care to make lasting and loving memories with each of them.
Along with her husband, Gail is survived by her loving children, George D. Metivier, IV, and his wife Stephanie of Woburn, Michelle Griffin and her significant other Mike Lydston of Methuen, Kim Adrian and her husband Rob of Dracut, and Kelley Calautti and her husband Mike of Dunstable; her beautiful grandchildren, Hailey Griffin, Sophia Metivier, Sydney Metivier, Sylvie Metivier, Brooke Calautti, and Jaxon Adrian; her dear siblings, Kevin Busher of Somerville, Frances Ormond of Somerville, Jan Comey and her husband Jim of Wilmington, and Robert Busher and his fiancée Lisa Cummings of Somerville, as well as many other dear uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends
Gail was the beloved sister of the late Steven Busher and John Busher.
