Obituary of Jeannette C. Fitzgibbon

Jeannette C. (LaRosee) Fitzgibbon, a loving wife and mother passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was 87 years old. Jeannette was born in Boston. She was the daughter of Albert and Catherine LaRosee. She grew up in Brighton and was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph's Academy. She then furthered her education by going to a secretarial school in Boston. She then went to work at Raytheon as an administrative assistant. It was at Raytheon that she met her future husband, Edward Fitzgibbon. Ed was also a Brighton native, but their paths did not intersect because he was a Saint Columbkille High graduate. They married in July of 1969 and started their life together living in Hudson. In 1976 they settled in their forever home in Burlington. They had two sons, and Jeannette embraced her new role as mother and homemaker. When her sons were in school, she returned to the workforce part time in the evenings at Jordan Marsh. She was part of the accounting department and handled new accounts and credit. She worked at Jordan Marsh until Macy's took over the company.

Jeannette was a quiet and humble woman who never wanted to be the center of attention. She had a kind heart, a gentle disposition, and always held herself in a prim and proper way. The only time she could be outspoken was when in a car. To the chagrin of her family, she was a very vocal back seat driver. During her retirement years, she and Ed were regulars at Dunkin Donuts. They would go twice a day, enjoy a cup of coffee, and share in conversation with their "Dunkin" friends. She loved her soap operas, especially the "Guiding Light", and enjoyed comedic shows like "Carol Burnett" and "Everyone Loves Raymond". She had a delightful laugh. She became a big Red Sox fan. She and Ed would watch the games together and she clapped for great plays and would occasionally yell at the television over bad calls or errors. She had her routine which included spending her Saturdays at Leone's Hair Salon and church at 4:30 p.m. She loved to shop! Family summer vacations were spent at the Oceanside Hotel in Dennis Port and when the kids were independent, in Falmouth. Jeannette and Ed had a wonderful bond. When they were both in the same care facility, they would simply sit side by side and hold hands. She was a loving and protective mother to her two sons. She was always there for them to support and encourage them growing up and as adults. In her last years, her boys were there to care for and make sure she was safe and well cared for. Jeannette lived her life with her family being the center of her world. She loved, and was loved, immensely.

Jeannette was the beloved wife of the late Edward Fitzgibbon. She was the loving mother of Albert Fitzgibbon and Brian Fitzgibbon both of Burlington. She was predeceased by her siblings, Albert LaRosee, John LaRosee, and Catherine Murrell. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Wednesday, May 15 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronicama.org, 111 Winn Street, Burlington at 10 a.m. Jeannette will then be laid to rest with her husband at Mount Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.
