Obituary of Norma Doyle
Norma Doyle, 98, a longtime resident of Burlington and founding member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, passed away Monday, May 20th at her home.
She was born in Revere the daughter of the late Charles and Amelia (Dewsnap) Morecroft. She was educated in the Revere school system and graduated from Revere High School.
Norma's Journey with St. Mark’s began at the American Legion where she and fellow congregants gathered. She witnessed and contributed to the church’s growth and relocation to Lexington Street and ultimately, its establishment on St. Mark’s Road. As the church’s treasurer, Norma’s meticulous care ensured the financial health of the parish and its many events. Alongside her dear friend Penny Newton, Norma was vital in organizing and running church activities, creating a welcoming and vibrant community for all.
She was employed at Star Market, in the office, for over 35 years assisting with the handling of the day-to-day exchange of monies. She was able to make many lasting connections and friendships that continued even after her retirement.
Beyond her church involvement and work, Norma found solace in crocheting, knitting and creating delicate ceramics, each piece a testament to her skill and creativity.
Norma cherished time spent with her family, often visiting her daughters in Kansas and Missouri. These visits were filled with joy and deep connection, reflecting the strong family bonds she nurtured throughout her life.
Her love story with her late husband began when there were just 12 or 13 years old at Revere Beach, where the bonded over their shared British roots. Their instant connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership, characterized by fun, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
Norma’s fun-loving nature and her ability to bring joy to those around her will be remembered fondly. Her legacy at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and in the hearts of her family and friends ensures that her memory will be cherished forever.
Norma was the loving wife of the late Alfred J. Doyle and the sister of the late Beatrice Fitzgerald, Barbra Messenger, Clifford Morecroft, Lillian Stowe, and George Morecroft.
She is survived by her adoring children, Charlene Coffelt of Centralia, Missouri, Richard Doyle and his wife Jane of Burlington, Cynthia Hagan and her late husband Robert of Lansing, Kansas, and Randall Doyle of Burlington, seven loving grandchildren, Stacey Brown, Ryan Coffelt, Michael Doyle, Meghan Mele, Matthew Doyle, Scott Hagan and Jeff Hagan as well as many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 10 am to 12 noon at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. Her funeral service will follow at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church 10 Saint Mark’s Road, Burlington at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Marks Episcopal Church, 10 Saint Mark’s Rd. Burlington MA 01803.
