Obituary of Dorothy Janice Duffy
Dorothy J. (Pepper) Duffy, 88, A long time resident of Arlington and more recently, Burlington, passed away peacefully at her home on August 21, 2024, Her family was by her side.
Dorothy was born in Boston one of three daughters of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Flynn) Pepper. She was educated in the Charlestown school system and graduated from Charlestown High School.
For many years she was employed as a bookkeeper at Arlington Lithograph.
She was the wife of the late James “Jim” Duffy who passed away in March of 2022.
Dorothy was beloved by all her family and friends, her warm and welcoming spirit always put everyone at ease and opened the door for long talks at the kitchen table. It was not uncommon to see a neighborhood child sitting at her kitchen table sharing in one of Dorothy’s kitchen table talks. She loved to bake and her baking creations filled the house with tantalizing scents that teased your taste buds.
Family was Dorothy’s main focus in life. Being a mother made her happy, but being a grandmother and great grandmother made her complete. She enjoyed spending time at Carson Beach, and Paradise Park with her children when they were young. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and going to all their school events, baseball games, dance recitals etc... you name it, she was there. Dorothy loved going to her home in Conway, NH and exploring the White Mountains, where shopping and nature were both celebrated.
Dorothy was the sister of the late Barbara Kristof and Arlene Locke.
She is survived by her children, James F. Duffy and his wife Darlene of Lowell, Kathleen M. Jones and her husband Rick of Burlington, and Nancy J. Ward and her husband Bobby of Malden, six grandchildren, Kristine Jones, Jessica Ward, Nicholas Ward, Haley Ward, Shane Duffy and Patrick Duffy, a great granddaughter, Olivia Nitche as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours on Monday, August 26th from 4pm to 7pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. Her funeral services will begin on Tuesday, August 27th, at the funeral home at 9am and conclude with a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Margaret’s Church, Burlington. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. in lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org/donate.
