Sending loving thoughts to his family and friends, and wishes for peace and love. In Roger's honor I'll be donoting to a local organization that gives saplings on Arbor Day. Having read about and being familiar with Rogers passion for his work and family, he had another passion, fishing? I met Roger about 25 years ago in Falmouth when I was launching my new boat. He liked it so much he bought the same model. So being moored near each other we would share our fishing stories and before long it was, who's boat should we use today? So we shared many good days of fishing together and later doing annual trips to Key West.
One thing I must mention is that through the progression of his illness, I never once heard any "poor me"! So my fishing buddy, you will be greatly missed.
Tight lines and rest in peace?

Wanted to share a nice memory of Roger...Back in early 2000's we were on vacation on Cape Cod in Falmouth. We went out to dinner with our young kids, and one of them spotted Roger and a small group eating at another table (we watched TOH a lot and they were so excited to recognize him). On our way out, before we could stop them, they rushed over to say hi. Roger was so gracious and friendly. When they asked for his autograph he seemed amused that kids under 10 considered him a celebrity! I tried to apologize for interrupting but he would have none of it, he smiled and waved off the apology, happy to accommodate the kids. What a nice man.

My name is Robert Lewis, Roger was my first foreman @ Frost and Higgins on Wheeler Rd in Burlington Mass in the late seventies and early eighties.Roger taught me so much about landscape construction and soft scape as well. He was a great teacher explaining everything in detail.I moved to NH in the early 90’s and ran my own Landscape business for over twenty years.
Much of my success came from the teachings of Roger and many Landscape Projects we worked on with Bill Rae’s Company .. Frost and Higgins … Cambridge High School, Projects at Harvard Business School … and Kiln Brook Office Park in Bedford. Roger even ran the tree moving crane with Wendell Hammond!
With my sincere condolences , and deepest sympathy… Bob Lewis ps this photo is a project I recently completed because Roger taught me the Herringbone Pattern. R.I.P my old friend Gods Speed ❤️

Just watching Roger on tv I could tell what a warm, genuine person he was. My heart goes out to Roger’s family who are dealing with an immense loss. I hope you find comfort knowing that Roger touched the lives of countless people he never even met.

Roger was great at everything he did. His segments of This Old House were the most captivating. I can’t say exactly why. He was humble, yet so strong and so smart, very personable, and held high respect for others and for the plants he was caring for. He had a genuine care for the aesthetic of the finished project.
My favorite bits were where he would boldly undertake a large project, like take down huge trees or put in an expansive walkway with stairs and water feature. As a viewer it would excessive at first, but by the end the results turned out so perfect and we could now see what he had envisioned all along. He was a great man. I envy those who knew him personally.

I got to know Roger about 20 years ago because of his fondness for using Bobcat equipment in his landscape projects, and I was his Bobcat factory connection. Periodically, he would call to ask for a particular machine or attachment needed for the show, and we struck up a friendship. I have been a fan of the show since the earliest days and continue watching reruns daily, thanks to the TOH channel on my smartTV. Roger made a couple of trips to North Dakota, visited the Bobcat factories there, and even did an AskTOH landscape project at the home of a friend in Fargo. I was always struck by his down-to-earth nature. He was never caught up in the celebrity of being a "TV star." He was just "Roger". God bless his memory. My condolences to Jason and Molly.

When I first moved into my own tiny apartment in Manhattan many years ago, I had my old 13" tv from college. I had no furniture and it would be some time before I could afford it. I slept on the living room floor. Cable companies at the time had to air PBS and other channels and I plugged my little TV into it and watched This Old House every chance I had.
Years later I would renovate my mother's house. Fixed plumbing. Installed drywall. Cleaned up the garden and laid a patio.
Roger and his friends, consummate educators all, gave me a degree in their work and copying their humility and conviction made me a better person.
Later, we bought a house in the woods and I cleared about a quarter acre all by myself. You could say, I believe, that this is Roger's garden as much as it his mine because he taught me the foundations of everything I know.
Thank you, Roger. You were a great man.

To all the Roger Cook family,
My deepest condolences and my heartfelt sadness that we lose a man like Roger Cook.
My husband, Russ Morash, created "This Old House", and in doing so he searched out only the most talented and genuine people he could find. It was a no brainer to have Roger on board because he was not only an expert in his field, he was a kind and gentle human being. Gracious, with good humor and friendly demeanor, and always ready to jump in and help out. Whenever I was with Roger I always felt better after the fact, that was his special persona.
Happily his talent lives on in the programs he did and in the lives of those who knew him. He will not be forgotten.

Roger was a long time valuable member of our Community Dock on Great Pond Maravista. His knowledge and expertise in rigging

He was an avid fisherman always happy to supply advice on where to fish.

I loved watching your father work on This Old House. I am a lawyer who likes to work out in his yard and you father did more for my landscaping than I can remember. I love hydrangea's and had them planted all over my yard and they never bloomed. The garden center could never give me a reason why this was happening and then one Saturday afternoon I caught an old episode of TOH where he was explaining some species of hydrangeas only bloom on "old wood" and you can't cut them down every year. Sure enough, I did not cut them down in the fall and the first summer after that episode I had huge blooms. Every time I look at them, I say thank you Rodger. Now they will forever remind me of a man I never knew but came to really like.

Roger, my next door neighbor and good friend, was a gentle soul who loved being with nature on and off the camera. His back yard was full of natural growth plants and trees. I used to drive him to the feeder store where we'd pick up big bags of bird seed and he would toss it all around his back porch to watch the squirrels and birds enjoy their morning breakfast. He loved visiting his K&R landscaping job sites to watch the work being done and on the weekends go down the cape to do his other favorite hobby, fishing!
I will miss you good buddy and I hope heaven greets you with a big plate of carrot cake, your favorite dessert.

My young son stumbled upon Roger’s TOH videos on YouTube kids. He loves lawnmowers and especially loved Roger’s landscaping demonstrations. We bonded over them, and learned a lot. I didn’t know Roger, but he seemed like an exceptional human being and great man. RIP Mr. Cook, thank you for everything.

I had the pleasure to become good friends with Roger when he came to his summer home in Falmouth. He would visit with my Grandmother. He would check on her and she would check on him. She had many landscaping ideas and he would help with suggestions. He and I would chat about my work in forest fire management and he loved to talk about all the tools, saws and more, that I used frequently. He would stroll by to go fishing and return with fillets of sea bass or striper. I helped with care of his property when needed and he always called to ask how things were after major storm events. I will miss those calls and cherish my visits I had. He was family to my family. Love and piece to the Cook family!

My Mom from Falmouth and Roger had a very wonderful relationship. Roger would bring fresh fish to her on his way home on Hiawatha, and he would come over and spend a lot of time with her. She loved him dearly. He and I did an episode of Ask TOH together with Roger and we both worked very hard on a very hot day on Hiawatha st. My love goes out to Roger and his Family as I very much share their sorrow .

My sincere condolences and sympathy to the entire Cook family for your loss. I played football with Roger at Burlington HS back in the 70’s and remember how he anchored our winning offensive line at Center….a big strong tough lineman on the field who was a leader with a quiet humble kind demeanour to everyone off the field. His hard work, generous spirit and always positive attitude was an inspiration to everyone around him. He carried that same spirit on TOH and was loved by all. Thank You RIP
