I extend my deepest sympathy to the Leahy family and friends. I met Steve during my tenure at KeySpan and National Grid. He was always kind and helpful to me in SO many ways--even after I was no longer employed with the utility. He was a prince of a guy. Rest well, my pal..
Sincerely, Carmen Fields

My sincere condolences to Steve’s mother, brothers, and their families.
I met Steve Leahy on a Tuesday, in January 1986 at the New England Governors’ Conference where we worked together for five years. We remain friends since that day. We spoke and saw each other often.
Steve was a polymath, who wore his accomplishments (which were many) lightly. He and I had similar - yet also different - backgrounds, and we enjoyed each other’ company and ideas in a similar and attentive way. We had many conversations, mutual agreements, occasional disagreements; but never an angry argument, or a cross word. And we laughed often. Steve was a very funny guy!
I will miss him for the rest of my life and anticipate wanting to call him as I often did, with some news, or wry observation to get his view or advice; and I cannot. Yet, I expect to meet him again.
Some years ago, Steve – who was an astute student of politics – told me that he had visited Lindenwald, the home of the eighth President of the United States, Martin Van Bureau, just outside Albany, in Kinderhook, New York. On Tuesday, our family visited Van Buren’s home and walked its grounds remembering Steve’s description of it to me, and remembering Steve, and walking those grounds with him.

To Steve's family and dearest friends, please accept my heartfelt condolences.
I first met Steve at the Annual Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, June 1994!
We immediately hit it off and our relationship - both personally and professionally - flourished from there. We would chat often, mostly about sports and politics, and his intelligence was obvious from the get-go. Smart, witty and always on the mark in his assessments, Steve was someone who I could always count on for expert advice, counsel and friendship.
I am very saddened by his passing and may he rest in peace.

I am sorry for your family's loss. Steve was my brother Paul's good friend from BC High ('77). I had the good fortune of knowing Steve during this time and throughout his life. He was steadfast and true in all of his relationships and endeavors. Steve was compassionate, kind, and helpful beyond measure during my brother's chronic illness and eventual passing. I am forever grateful for my friendship with Steve. His example of how to live will be with me always.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve at the NECBC. He will always be one of my favorite people. Steve, ever the gentleman, and so smart. I envisioned Steve's retirement with him in a teaching role. He had a wealth of knowledge to share. Rest in peace, my friend.

I don’t believe we ever met but I read he had Brain cancer. I graduated BC High in 1981. I was diagnosed 11 plus years ago with a grade 3 oligodendroglioma. I had surgery and completed 6 months of chemo. I am grateful everyday for my extra time and want Stephen’s family to know all your love was truly meaningful beyond measure. I too was showered with love and prayers and I always knew if I died I would always be thankful and so I believe: He is looking down upon you and all of us with a special smile that will always be with us. Bless you all!

Helped me pass biology!!!
If you were to look up the definition of the world gentleman- you’d likely see Steve’s picture there. Very, very sad to hear this news. Our world has lost a great and kind soul.
