Mary Oliver, 87, long-time resident of Reading, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away suddenly on November 7, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and creativity that touched all who knew her. Known for her selflessness, courage, and empathy, Mary was the heart of her family and a constant source of support to everyone around her.

Mary was born in Cambridge and the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mae (Harrington) Donovan. She resided in Somerville graduated from Matignon High School before attending Boston College.

Mary met her husband at a casual gathering of friends, felt an immediate attraction, and married in April 1966. Their wonderful family began soon after.

Mary built a respected career as a legal secretary, where her intelligence, professionalism, and dedication left a lasting impression on her colleagues. Mary was a devoted wife and partner, standing by her husband in life and in business, where her skillful handling of administrative tasks helped his company thrive.

As a mother, Mary’s love and guidance were a constant source of support for her children, who cherished her honesty, wisdom, and listening ear. Her humility, strength, and empathy made her a steadfast presence in their lives.

Mary had a lifelong love for the arts, expressing her creativity through sewing, painting, and calligraphy, which filled her home with warmth. She shared a passion for music and theater, especially light opera, and was an enthusiastic Red Sox fan. She found joy in nature walks, bird watching, and family trips to Cape Cod and North Conway. She brought beauty and life as an avid flower gardener.
