Obituary of Agnes Doran

Agnes (McLaughlin) Doran, 87, of Burlington/ Harwich, loving grandmother, devoted wife, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her cherished family on November 11, 2024.

She was born in Boston on August 18, 1937 the daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Heffernan) McLaughlin.

She met her beloved husband of 65 years, Joseph Doran, through her future sister-in-law, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love and devotion. Joseph joined the military and wrote to Agnes consistently. After completing his duty, the two were wed September 26, 1959 in Wakefield, MA.

Agnes loved the communities she lived in (Somerville, Burlington, Harwich, Punta Gorda) and special friendships she developed in those communities.  The Mill Street neighborhood in Burlington was a great place to raise their four children.  Memories and friendships made on “G” Row at Harbor Belle RV Resort in Punta Gorda, FL became her most cherished.  Her home in Harwich was her “happy place.” She always looked forward to her family ascending on The Cape for summer time gatherings.

Agnes had a gift for cooking, and her homemade sauce was a treasured family recipe. When her children were young, family vacations included camping trips with adventures throughout The Northeast and as her children became older, Agnes’ vacations included motorcycle trips throughout New England with her husband Joe and their best friends.

A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Grammy was ever-present in the lives of her family. She rarely missed a prom, birthday party, Holiday gathering or sporting event, always there to cheer on and support her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After raising her children, Agnes returned to school to earn her associate degree from Middlesex Community College, graduating the same year as her daughter.  Her career journey included driving a school bus for the Burlington school system, working as an ultrasound technician, and later serving as an administrative assistant at Chrysler Automotive.

Agnes is survived by her loving husband Joseph Doran of Burlington, her sister Peggy Bartlett and her husband David from FL,  her children, Joseph Doran and his wife Mary of Westford, Lisa Coker and her husband Dennis of Sahuarita, AZ, Lynne Basteen and her husband Bill of Corona de Tucson, AZ, and Leo Doran and his wife Monica Cantwell of Hopedale, 13 grandchildren, Joey Doran and Amanda Groom, Patrick Doran and his wife Cheryl, Liam Doran, Michael Doran and his wife Kaitlyn, Brittany Albright and her husband Justin, Matthew Doran and his fiancé Nicole Logan, Andrew Doran, and Isabelle Doran, Jay Doran and his wife Jennifer Meshna, Beau Basteen and his wife Kaitlyn, Hunter Basteen and his wife Erikka, Cody Basteen, Corey Basteen and his wife Zoe, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
