Obituary of David E Hobart
David E. Hobart, 71, of Woburn, passed away Monday, November 18, surrounded by family after a period of failing health.
Born in Newton, the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Paterson), David was educated in the Burlington school system and graduated from Burlington High School with the Class of 1973.
As a youth, David enjoyed spending his summer vacation at his family’s cottage in Ogunquit, Maine, where he fell in love with the ocean. The passion continued throughout his life as he enjoyed boating, jet skiing, and surfing off Hampton Beach.
A gifted athlete, David excelled in gymnastics and earned the title of state champion in 1973. His love for the sport endured as he later coached his daughter and opened his own gymnastics gym where he inspired countless young athletes.
His entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there; David also owned a typewriter repair shop in Woburn Center for many years. Later in life, his profession as a skilled machinist for Boston Ship reflected his meticulous nature and dedication. A lover of music, especially 70’s rock, he worked as a bouncer for concerts in his 20s, embodying the toughness and warmth that defined him. David was often found cruising on his motorcycle, letting the wind and his favorite tunes carry him to new adventures.
An animal lover, David shared a deep bond with his dogs, most recently his beloved Daisy, who will miss him dearly.
David is survived by his children and grandchildren - Laura Caggiano, her husband Michael, and their daughters Maddie, Lily, and Zoe of Woburn, David Hobart, his wife Kelly, and their daughters Kylie and Hannah of Billerica, and Kristen Barter and her children Luke, Cameron and Lainey, also of Woburn. He was the beloved brother to Lynne Moran and her husband Eugene, and uncle to their child Richie of Burlington. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hobart.
In accordance with David’s wishes, all funeral services will be private and a celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
