Obituary of Bradford A. "Brad" Ogren

Bradford A. “Brad” Ogren, Retired Vice President of Melo-Tone Vending

Bradford A. “Brad” Ogren, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 after a full and rewarding life. Born in Medford, Massachusetts, Brad was raised in Somerville, where he was educated and developed lasting friendships. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Doris, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories.

In 1964, Brad and Doris made Burlington their home, where they raised their family. Brad began his career at Melo-Tone Vending as a route driver, filling cigarette and vending machines. Over the next 40 years, his dedication and hard work earned him the role of Vice President, where he took pride in being part of a family-oriented company. He was especially grateful to work alongside his sons and his brother, creating a lasting bond within the family. Brad retired at the age of 65.

Brad was a man who truly valued an active lifestyle. He enjoyed walking his dog, Rusty, on the peaceful trails behind his home, and he was an avid golfer, often enjoying rounds with family at the Paul Harney Golf Club and friends at the Mount Hood Golf Course. A longtime member of the Burlington Country Club, Brad loved socializing with friends and playing tennis. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle along the bike trails in Lexington.

In addition to his love for golf and tennis, Brad cherished his travels, including memorable trips to Italy, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Alaska with Doris. For decades, their summer home in Falmouth was the heart of family gatherings, where laughter, love, and togetherness filled the air. Brad took great joy in watching his family play at the beach, driving the boat while the kids water-skied, and working on home improvement projects—whether it was carpentry, painting, or landscaping, he was always tending to his homes with care.

Above all, Brad’s life revolved around his family. He and Doris recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a testament to the strength of their love and partnership. Their relationship was a model of mutual respect, unwavering support, and shared joy. Brad and Doris created a warm, loving home that welcomed their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and they were pillars of strength and guidance through all of life’s ups and downs.

Brad was deeply proud of his family—his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. He delighted in their individual gifts and talents, and his heart swelled with happiness when the entire family gathered together. His infectious humor, kind spirit, witty banter, and unshakable devotion to those he loved will live on in their hearts forever.

Brad’s legacy will be remembered with love and gratitude by his wife Doris, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will

be dearly missed, but his memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his family and friends.

Brad was the loving husband of Doris (Sheppard) Ogren. He was the caring and supportive father of Laura Murray & her husband Thomas, III. of Meredith, NH, formerly of Burlington, Bradford Ogren, Jr. of Burlington, and Derek Ogren, Sr. & his wife Tammy of Billerica. He was the proud grandfather of Danielle McCarthy & her husband Devin, Jessica Nearhos & her husband Nicholas, Derek Ogren, Jr., and Cameron Ogren. He was the great grandfather of Allison and Thomas McCarthy. Brad was predeceased by his siblings Ellen Olson, Ronald Ogren, Gerald Ogren, and Bertil “Bert” Ogren. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Wednesday, December 18 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will conclude with a funeral service at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
