Robert Samson

Obituary of Robert Edward Samson

Robert E. Samson, age 92, passed away peacefully at Stonebridge Assisted Living on December 31, 2024.  He was the beloved husband of Charlotte F. (Fullerton) Samson, with whom he had shared over 51 beautiful years of marriage.

Born in Boston, MA on August 6, 1932, he was one of five children of the late Joseph W. and Theresa (Pilostuzk) Samson.  Bob was raised in Dorchester, MA and following his education he went on to work briefly as a taxi driver in Boston.  He then built his career working for UPS over for 40 years, training employees how to safely and efficiently drive the larger trucks, and human resource director.  Bob also worked for Perrier for some time, where he also trained the drivers.  When he was working for UPS Bob proudly became the first person in the state to drive tandem tractor trailers.  Following his retirement, Bob owned and operated a professional safety driving school for over 10 years down in Cape Cod.

In his free time, Bob’s interests certainly aligned with what he did for work.  He loved cars; whether he was working on them, driving them, or teaching others how to drive them, he was happiest behind—or near—the wheel.  Over the course of his 92 years, Bob owned over 50 different cars, although he only ever had four or five “road ready” at a time.  Every Sunday he could be found in his driveway, diligently washing whichever cars he had ready to drive at the time.  There was a special place in his heart for his MG Porsche, his Cadillac, and his Mustang, but he truly reveled in his hobby and enjoyed each car he had for their own unique reasons.  His dedication to his cars didn’t hold him back when it came to being an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, or from his social life though.  Bob was a “people person” to his very core.  He loved getting together with his friends, and his charming nature made him able to talk to just about anyone, which made him new friends wherever he went.  He also enjoyed watching football, and even ran a football pool for his friends and family that he was devoted to doing right up through this year.  If he wasn’t working on one of his many cars, or watching a football game, Bob could be found cleaning, meticulously looking after his lawn and yard, or cooking for himself or his family—especially breakfast.  He also had a soft spot for animals, and any time you ran into him you could count on him having a bone for your dog in his pocket to share.  Above everything else in his life though, Bob loved his family.  Making lasting memories with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren was tremendously important, and he took great care to be a loving and supportive person in all their lives.

Bob was the devoted father of the late Robert Samson, Joseph Samson and Donna Duffy.  He was also the dear father-in-law of the late James Walker, and Stephen McDonald.  Bob was also a loving brother of the late Arthur Samson, Fred Basner, Carol Smith, and Iona Samson

Surviving Bob are his children, Debra Walker of Burlington, Gail McDonald of Gloucester, David Samson of ME, Gene Duffy and his wife Janet of Bluffton, SC, and Joanne Karen of FL; his grandchildren, James Walker, William Mathews, Jennifer Rico, Joseph Samson, Nicaela Samson, Krista Duffy, and Austin Samson, Megan Atkins, and Caitlin Boone; his great-grandchildren, Kayla Walker, Tyler Walker, Elijah Ducette, and Cole Mathews, as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

At the request of the family, services will be held privately.  As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to Northeast Animal Shelter.
