Obituary of William F. Powers
William F. Powers, age 90, passed away peacefully at Kaplan Hospice in Danvers on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa R. (Reale) Powers, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing in 2021.
Born in Boston, MA on September 19, 1934, Bill was one of three children of the late Alfred Rae and Alice (Millerick) Rae. Raised in Somerville, Bill proudly enlisted in the United States Navy following his education. During the Korean War, he was stationed on a battleship off the coast of California, which sparked his deep-rooted love for the state. After his honorable discharge, Bill and his wife Theresa moved to Corona, California, to start their family. They lived there for many years before returning to Massachusetts to be closer to family.
Bill’s exceptional work ethic was evident as he held multiple jobs simultaneously to ensure his family was well taken care of. He never wanted his wife or his children to be deprived of anything they needed or desired. Bill's industrious nature led him to run his own tax business while steadily climbing the ranks at CTI Cryogenics, eventually becoming a quality control inspector. Despite his demanding work schedule, Bill's dedication to his family and friends was unparalleled. In retirement, his grandchildren became his entire world, and he cherished every moment with them.
A voracious reader, Bill often went through three or four books a week and was a regular at the Billerica Library. Whether spending time with his family, his lifelong friends George and Louise, or immersed in a good book, Bill gave his all. His love, loyalty, and steadfastness left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Bill is survived by his dear children, Tina Powers of Billerica, Diane Welton of Billerica, and Michael Powers of NH; his loving grandchildren, Jason Welton, Emily Welton and her fiancé Tom Cirame, Kerin Powers, and Anthony Powers; his sister, Alice Rae of Bristol, NH; and many cherished nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Marilyn Burns.
At the request of the family, all services for Bill will be held privately. In addition, the family will hold a celebration of life service on Saturday, January 18th, at the Woburn Country Club. Please let the family know if you plan to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s honor may be made to The Family Friends of Billerica Public Library, 15 Concord Road, Billerica MA 01821.
