Obituary of Carol Murray-McDonough
Carol T. Murray-McDonough, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away after a battle with cancer on Friday morning, July 26, 2013. She was 76 years old.
Carol was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jessica Murray. She was one of 10 children growing up in Burlington when it was still a small farming community with a population just over 2000. It was a time in Burlington when you knew all the residents in the town, not just your neighborhood, and there was a real sense of community. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School and Burdett College in Boston. She previously worked at Bank of Boston for a number of years before joining her brother, Robert, as a manager at the Café Escadrille. She retired after spending 20 years in the family business.
Carol was often described as gracious, a friend, and the perfect hostess. She loved to entertain and she was a fantastic cook. She loved being surrounded by all her family and friends. Carol’s guests never left her home empty handed. She always cooked too much, so that all would have something to take home. It was her simple way of saying “I appreciate your friendship”. She loved vacationing with her family and friends in Gloucester, Block Island, and on Lake Winnipesaukee. Carol touched so many individuals during her 76 years. Her love and her kindness will live on in the hearts of all she shared her life with.
Carol was the loving mother of Edward Harold “Harry” McDonough, III of Woburn, Geoffrey McDonough of Salem, Oregon. She was the sister of Thomas Murray, Jr. of Burlington, Susan Poirier of Burlington, Robert Murray of Burlington, Sheila Murphy of Burlington, Richard Murray of Woburn, Anne Murray of Burlington, Michael Murray of Burlington, Joseph Murray of Burlington, and Daniel Murray of Woburn. She was the proud grandmother of Sean & Ryan McDonough. She was the lifelong friend of Phyllis Santullo and her family of Burlington.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, July 30 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
