Obituary of Frank Bausch

Frank George Bausch, a veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart Recipient, passed away at his home of 58 years in Burlington, on Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2013. The beloved husband of 64 years of Irene (Callahan) he was 88 years old. Frank was born in the Roxbury section of Boston. He was raised and educated in Jamaica Plain. He was a graduate of Mechanic Arts High School. Frank was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army where he rose to the rank of Corporal. He saw extensive action in Normandy, Northern France, Germany, and Central Europe. During combat in Mortain France, Frank was wounded for which he later received the Purple Heart. He also was the recipient of the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medical, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. He took great pride in service to his country. Frank and Irene settled in Burlington in 1955 where they raised their seven children and became active members of the community and their church. When he purchased his home, the second floor was completely unfinished and Frank with a little help from family and friends added 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, which was space he definitely needed with 7 children. He enjoyed maintaining and improving his home. Frank worked for over 40 years at Boston Edison. He started in the South Boston Edison Station and worked his way to lineman and then supervisor. Frank was a person of faith, family and community. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Malachy Church, where he volunteered as an usher at Mass for decades. He was a member of the Burlington Knights of Columbus. He was a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan. Frank had a wonderful connection with his wife of 64 years. They truly enjoyed sharing each other’s company. They played Bridge, Whist, and bowled together. They traveled everywhere together visiting destinations including, Europe, Alaska, Bermuda, cruises in the Caribbean and down the Mississippi. They owned a cottage in Wareham for many years and it was a great place for all his family to gather and enjoy each other’s company. He was a big man, with a gentle heart and will be missed by all those he loved. Frank was the loving husband of Irene T. (Callahan). He was the loving father of Alan & his wife Carol of Maynard, Stephen & his wife Patricia of Manchester, NH, Jeanne Esdale & her husband Robert of Wilmington, Paul & his wife Eni of Chelmsford, James of Franklin, NH, Elaine Rush & her husband Joseph of Nashua, NH and John & his wife Arlene of Gilmanton, NH. He was the brother of Robert & his wife Shirley of Hudson, MA. Frank was the proud grandfather of Daniel & Kristin Esdale, Patrick, Lauren & Caitlin Rush and Timothy, Matthew, Kevin, Theresa and Philip Bausch. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St. Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
