Obituary of Bartholomew Moroney

Bart Moroney, a retired Vice President and Clinical Psychologist passed away unexpectedly on Friday night, November 1, 2013. He was 79 years old. Bart was born in Brookline, the son of the late Bartholomew and Mary Moroney. He was very proud to have grown up in the Whisky Point section of Brookline with its close knit working class residents much of whom were of Irish decent. After graduating from Brookline High School in 1951, he enlisted in the Navy to fight in the Korean War. He was trained to be a medic and served on the hospital ship, USS Haven which was stationed off Inchon, Korea. He helped care for thousands of soldiers during his 4 years in the Navy. He was discharged from the Navy in 1956. When he returned home, he went to visit a Doctor he served with who was working at the Choate Hospital, it was then that he first met his future wife, an English girl, Sally Bennett who was working in the Radiology department. They were married in 1957. They made their home in Woburn for a while and then in Florida. While living in Florida he earned his Associates Degree in Business from St. Petersburg College. He returned to Massachusetts in 1967 settling in Burlington. He always wanted to stimulate his mind, reading as many as 10 books a week and always doing crossword puzzles. He was a regular at the Burlington Public Library. Bart had a strong work ethic, sharp mind, and a warm persona which helped him succeed in whatever he pursued. He took a job as a salesman at a new company called Bioran Medical Laboratories in Cambridge. Over the 20 years he worked for Bioran, the company grew and flourished. He rose to the position of Vice President. Then deciding that he might want to change career paths to more of a healthcare provider, he went to Framingham State and earned his Psychology Degree graduating with high honors. He left Bioran and went to work as a Psychologist at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, where eventually he retired. It gave Bart great comfort to know that his work was truly helping those in need. Bart’s family was a very large portion of his life. He was a devoted and supportive husband to his wife Sally for 56 years, sharing in their raising of their family. He was a very proud and supportive father to his sons. He encourage them to work hard, get a good education, play sports, and make wise life decisions. He was always in the stands watching their football and baseball games, wrestling matches, and track meets. He even went to the extreme of driving for a day to University of Pennsylvania see his son Bart compete in track and Sean play football at Upsala College in New Jersey. He simply wanted to “Be There” for his son’s in whatever way he could. He was so happy to see his family grow with his daughter-in-laws and then his 5 grandchildren whom he adored. Bart was the beloved husband of Sally (Bennett). He was the loving father of Bart & his wife Sabina of Breezy Point, NY, Sean & his wife Denise and Colin & his wife Tina of Burlington. He was predeceased by his first born son, Daniel Patrick. He was the brother of Francis of Hallendale, FL, Mary Santospargo of Norwood, Irene Baker of Brookline, and Margaret Moroney of Hyde Park. He was the proud grandfather of Colin, Dylan, Sarah, Bart, and Molly. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
