Obituary of David James

David G. James,66 a resident of Wilmington, MA passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He died as a result of multiple myeloma related to his exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. David was born, raised and educated in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Clayton E. James Sr. and Eleanor (Bent) James. David was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his county in the United States Army. During his time of service, David was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and was awarded three Bronze Stars, two of which were Bronze Stars with Valor. David was an active member of the Saugus VFW Post. David served as Commander and Vice Commander of the Massachusetts chapter of the United States Veterans Vietnam Era Post. David was also involved in gaining due recognition for Vietnam Veterans with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. David was determined to bring awareness of our nation’s POW’s, our missing patriots. He represented his post in parades and ceremonies, often dressing in full uniform in a POW cage, reminding all, “You are not forgotten.” After discharge from his service, David worked with his good friend Paul Icovitti, restoring cars, specializing in custom bodywork and painting. David then went on to a career with the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired. David enjoyed working on classic cars and displaying his customized cars at shows in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. One of the car clubs he was a member of was the Dominators Hot Rod Club. David owned and customized 74 cars since 1971. David was a loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed. He was the beloved brother of Clayton E. James Jr. and cherished brother-in-law of the late MaryEllen James. He was the proud uncle of his nieces and nephew, Pamela, Clayton R., Michele, Jennifer, and Kimberly and his 11 great-nieces and nephews. David’s memory is honored by his aunts, uncles, and many cousins and friends. SERVICES: Visiting Hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013, 12 noon, at St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St, in Burlington, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment Prayers and burial will follow at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Clayton James Jr. is David’s only surviving brother. Veterans and/or current service military personnel are invited to join family and friends to pay tribute to honor their fallen brother at his gravesite.
