Obituary of Janet McCullough
Janet McCullough, a woman devoted to her family and faith, passed away on Thursday evening, November 21, 2013. She was 80 years old.
Janet was born in Brighton, the daughter of Nova Scotia immigrants, the late John and Josephine MacDonald. She grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She then went on to graduate from Chandler Secretarial School. Over the years she had worked as a secretary at Microwave Corporation in Burlington and as a lunch monitor at the Memorial Elementary School. She also volunteered her time at the Burlington Public Library. Janet had a number of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed traveling with Bermuda, England, and Scotland being some of her favorite destinations. She and her husband made it a tradition to visit Perkins Cove in Ogunquit every year. She loved music and even played the piano. Janet enjoyed going to the theater, plays, and choral concerts. She made an effort to support as many charities as possible, with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital being her favorite. Janet enjoyed walking and visiting with friends. She enjoyed raising her family in Burlington and being involved in many of the activities and events held within the community.
Janet was a woman of strong faith. She has been a Faithful parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church for the past 58 years. Her husband John, a mason, even worked on the construction of the current church. She taught religious education and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She attended mass daily and in the good weather often walked more than a mile to church. Janet’s life revolved around her family. She has been married to her husband John, whom she met on a blind date after he returned from the Navy for 59 years. She always placed her family’s needs above her own. She was a supportive mother who was always there at her children’s activities, sporting events, and school functions. As her children became adults, she was there to lend some parental advice, a helping hand, or babysitting whenever she was asked. Her family has wonderful memories of summers spent at the family cottage on Lake Winnisquam in, New Hampshire She will be remembered by her family for warmth, understanding, kindness, faith, modesty, and constant and steadfast love and devotion she shared with them each and every day of her life.
Janet was the loving wife of John V. “Hank” McCullough. Loving mother of Lisa Thompson of Rochester, NH, Jack McCullough & his wife Beth of North Andover, and Mary Resendiz & her husband Gus of Andover. Sister of the late Mary Breda. Proud Nana of Alex, Sarah, & David Thompson, Devon & Hunter McCullough, and Nick, Katie & Danny Resendiz.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Monday, November 25 at 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon. Visiting hours Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
