Obituary of Edmund Cavicchi
Edmund J. Cavicchi passed away at the Wilmington Health Care Center on Thursday evening, November 21, 2013. The beloved husband of the late Edith H. (Kmet) Cavicchi, he was 90 years old.
Ed was born, raised and educated in Somerville. He was the son of the late Cesare and Rose Cavicchi. After graduating from Somerville High School, he spent a year working at the Charlestown Navy Yard. He then enlisted in the Navy, serving 3 years during World War II. He was a crew member on the USS Herbert, a Wickes Class Destroyer, which served as a convoy escort and anti-submarine missions. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
Ed and his wife Edie settled in Burlington in 1954 where they raised their 5 children. Ed worked as a furniture finisher at Ruderman’s in Stoneham for over 35 years. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making toys for his children and in later years his grandchildren. Ed led a full and active life. He was a member of the ABC Bowling league and enjoyed club nights with friends. Ed and his wife Edie volunteered for meals on wheels as well as at the Fernald School. Ed had a good heart and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Ed was the beloved husband of 63 years of the late Edith H. (Kmet) Cavicchi. He was the loving father of Janice Buckley of Burlington, Edmund “Buddy” Cavicchi & his wife Mary of Whitefield, NH, Pam O’Brien & her husband John of Hampton, NH, Ken Cavicchi & his wife Judi of Townsend and Robert Cavicchi of Burlington. Brother of the late Edna Cavicchi and Evelyn Tammaro. Grandfather of 10 and Great Grandfather of 4.
Friends and family are invited to Graveside Services at Pine Haven Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Wednesday Nov. 27 at Noon. A Reception will be held immediately following at the American Legion, 162 Winn St., Burlington. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side). Memorials in Ed’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, MA Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
